Remote Biophysics Research information

What is remote biophysics research?

Remote biophysics research involves conducting scientific studies and analyses in the field of biophysics from a location outside of a traditional laboratory, often using digital tools, simulations, and data analysis software. Researchers can collaborate with teams, access shared datasets, and use cloud-based computing resources to model biological systems and interpret results from experiments conducted elsewhere. This setup allows for flexibility and global collaboration while maintaining high standards of scientific integrity. Remote biophysics research is especially valuable in situations requiring social distancing or when accessing specialized equipment is impractical.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals working in remote biophysics research, and how can they be addressed?

One common challenge in remote biophysics research is maintaining effective collaboration and communication with team members, as much of the work involves interdisciplinary input and frequent data sharing. Researchers often need to navigate time zone differences, ensure secure data transmission, and use specialized software for simulations or data analysis. To address these challenges, it's helpful to establish regular virtual meetings, use collaborative platforms for sharing research data, and set clear communication protocols. Proactively seeking feedback and staying organized with project management tools can also help foster a productive remote work environment.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote biophysics researcher?

To thrive as a Remote Biophysics Researcher, you need a strong background in physics, biology, and mathematics, typically supported by an advanced degree in biophysics or a related field. Familiarity with computational modeling software, data analysis tools like MATLAB or Python, and experience with scientific databases are commonly required. Strong problem-solving skills, self-motivation, and effective written communication are crucial for independent research and collaboration across virtual teams. These skills ensure rigorous scientific analysis, accurate data interpretation, and the ability to contribute meaningful findings in a remote research environment.

Job description

This role is for one of our clients
Compensation: $80 - $110 per hour
Join a leading AI research initiative developing the next generation of AI systems for scientific reasoning. We are seeking accomplished Biology & Biophysics Research Collaborators to help advance AI models capable of reasoning across complex life science disciplines at the level of active researchers-not textbooks.
This opportunity is ideal for researchers with expertise in molecular biology, biophysics, structural biology, immunology, neuroscience, genomics, and related life science disciplines. Your research experience will directly contribute to improving AI systems that solve advanced scientific problems through rigorous biological reasoning.
This is a remote, part-time engagement requiring up to 20 hours per week.
Requirements
Key Responsibilities
  • Review and evaluate biology and biophysics research papers for scientific rigor, novelty, and validity.
  • Design and review challenging biology and biophysics problems used to train and evaluate advanced AI models.
  • Assess AI-generated solutions involving:
    • Biological mechanism prediction
    • Experimental design
    • Scientific literature interpretation
    • Research methodology and scientific reasoning
  • Identify reasoning errors and scientific gaps that experienced life science researchers would readily recognize.
  • Provide detailed, evidence-based written feedback to improve AI model performance.
  • Collaborate with fellow researchers and project teams to ensure consistency and quality across evaluation tasks.

Required Qualifications
We're seeking researchers who demonstrate several of the following:
  • First-author or co-first-author publications in leading journals such as:
    • Nature
    • Science
    • Cell
    • PNAS
    • eLife
    • The New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM)
    • Nature Methods
    • Nature Medicine
    • Nature Biotechnology
    • Nature Communications
  • PhD or postdoctoral training from a globally recognized institution in the life sciences or a related STEM discipline.
  • Recipient of prestigious fellowships or research awards such as:
    • HHMI Fellowships (including EXROP, Hanna H. Gray, or Investigator)
    • NIH F31, F32, or K99 Fellowships
    • NSF Graduate Research Fellowship or Postdoctoral Research Fellowship
    • Damon Runyon Fellowship
    • Helen Hay Whitney Fellowship
    • Jane Coffin Childs Fellowship
    • Searle Scholars Program
    • Pew Scholars Program
    • Sloan Research Fellowship
    • Packard Fellowship
    • Simons Fellowship
    • Fulbright Scholarship
    • Or equivalent internationally recognized research awards
  • Named inventor on patents, founder of a research spin-out, or Principal Investigator/Co-Investigator on funded research grants.
  • Current or recent experience in an active research role, including:
    • PhD Candidate
    • Postdoctoral Researcher
    • Faculty Member
    • Instructor
    • Principal Scientist
    • Industry Researcher
  • Outstanding senior PhD students and recent graduates with exceptional publication records are strongly encouraged to apply. Demonstrated research excellence is valued more than years of professional experience.

Engagement Details
  • Schedule: Part-time (up to 20 hours per week)
  • Work Arrangement: Fully Remote
  • Compensation: Competitive and based on research experience, publication record, and academic credentials.
  • Duration: Ongoing, subject to project requirements and performance.
