What is a remote BI developer?

Remote BI (Business Intelligence) Developers are professionals who design, develop, and maintain business intelligence solutions like dashboards, reports, and data models while working from a remote location. They use tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or SQL to analyze data and help organizations make informed decisions. Remote BI Developers collaborate with stakeholders virtually to understand requirements and deliver actionable insights, ensuring that data is accurate, accessible, and secure.

What does a remote BI developer do?

As a remote BI developer, you work from home or otherwise remotely to design and program software that supports a company's business intelligence needs. To accomplish this, you may use SQL to store and organize data, determine which types of analytics to use with your software, and ensure your software can create each type of report your client asks for. Remote BI developers frequently create complex SQL queries that pull data from multiple sources, translate user requirements into programming objectives, and coordinate with database and infrastructure teams. You may also help create tools to store data, conduct testing, update existing software, and help assess future business intelligence needs.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote BI developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote BI Developer, you need strong analytical skills, experience with data modeling, and proficiency in SQL, typically supported by a degree in computer science, information systems, or a related field. Familiarity with BI tools like Power BI, Tableau, or Qlik, as well as knowledge of ETL processes and data warehousing, is commonly required. Excellent problem-solving abilities, communication skills, and self-motivation are essential soft skills for collaborating remotely and translating business needs into technical solutions. These skills ensure effective data-driven decision-making and seamless integration of BI solutions in a remote work environment.

How does a remote BI developer typically collaborate with data teams and stakeholders while working offsite?

As a Remote BI Developer, collaboration is often achieved through a mix of virtual meetings, project management platforms, and shared documentation tools. You’ll frequently interact with data engineers, analysts, and business stakeholders to gather requirements, clarify data sources, and ensure that dashboards and reports meet business needs. Job description

Why Arcoro?
Want to work with a solid company that's transforming HR for the construction industry? Our team of dedicated professionals helps construction, contracting and field services companies hire, manage and grow their workforce with a market-leading SaaS solution. As a member of the A-Team, you'll enjoy a top-notch employee experience where you can embrace your problem-solving skills and innovation, work with a team of great colleagues and see the impact of your contribution each day. Our culture is collaborative, and we believe strongly in training, growth and internal advancement. We offer competitive compensation including comprehensive benefits and a generous time-off policy. We offer both on-site and remote opportunities.
At Arcoro, you will help create software products that are cutting edge, easy to use, and that make an appreciated and notable difference in our customer's daily lives.
About the Role
Arcoro is hiring its first dedicated data leader to build the foundation for how the company uses data to make decisions. The Director, Data & Business Intelligence will define Arcoro's data strategy, build and maintain a central data warehouse, own the transformation logic that turns raw data into trusted business metrics, and establish the definitions and governance that let every team, from Finance to Sales to Customer Experience, work from the same numbers. This is a hands-on, individual-contributor role today with a clear path to building a team as Arcoro's data needs grow. Customer-facing or embedded analytics within Arcoro's own products currently sit with Product and Engineering, though this may evolve as the data roadmap matures.
What You'll Do
Data Strategy
  • Develop and maintain Arcoro's data strategy and roadmap, aligning what gets built with the reporting, forecasting, and operational needs of Finance, Sales, Customer Experience, Product, and executive leadership
  • Recommend and evolve the data platform and tooling stack (warehouse, transformation, and business intelligence tools) as the company's needs mature
  • Prioritize data initiatives based on business impact and partner with department leaders to scope new requests

Data Warehouse & Integration
  • Architect, implement, and maintain Arcoro's central data warehouse as the single source of truth for company data
  • Build and maintain pipelines that bring data into the warehouse from core systems, including the CRM, the financial and billing systems, product usage data, and customer support and service platforms
  • Monitor pipeline health and data quality, and establish alerting so issues are caught before they reach reports and dashboards

Business Logic & BI Enablement
  • Design and maintain the transformation layer that converts raw source data into consistent, business-ready metrics
  • Administer the business intelligence platform and build executive and board-level dashboards and reporting
  • Enable self-service reporting for other departments by providing clean, well-modeled data and reusable reporting building blocks

Definitions & Governance
  • Own and maintain a company-wide data dictionary and semantic layer, ensuring metrics such as ARR, NRR, churn, and active customer counts are defined once and used consistently everywhere
  • Establish data governance standards, including data ownership, access controls, and data quality expectations
  • Document data sources, transformation logic, and reporting definitions so institutional knowledge does not live in one person's head
  • Partner with IT and Security on data privacy and compliance requirements as they apply to the data warehouse and reporting layer

Cross-Functional Partnership
  • Work closely with the CFO and Finance team on financial reporting, board metrics, and forecasting data needs
  • Partner with Sales, Customer Experience, Product, and Marketing leaders to align on shared metrics and reduce duplicate or conflicting reporting
  • Manage relationships and investment decisions for data platform and business intelligence tooling

What Success Looks Like
  • Within the first 6 months: a functioning central data warehouse with core Finance, Sales, and Customer Success data flowing in reliably, and a documented data dictionary for the company's most-used metrics
  • Within the first year: self-service dashboards adopted across departments, a defined data governance process, and a clear roadmap for the data function's next phase, and a recommendation on how it should be resourced going forward

What We're Looking For
  • 6+ years of experience in data engineering, analytics engineering, or business intelligence, including experience owning data warehouse end to end
  • Hands-on experience with modern cloud data warehouse platforms (such as Snowflake, BigQuery, or Redshift) and transformation tools (such as dbt)
  • Experience building and administering business intelligence tools (such as Looker, Power BI, Tableau, or similar) for executive and cross-functional reporting
  • Strong SQL skills and comfort working directly with data from CRM, ERP or billing, and product usage systems
  • Demonstrated ability to establish data governance and definitions in an organization that previously lacked them, and to drive adoption across departments that do not report to this role
  • Experience working closely with Finance or executive stakeholders on reporting used for board and investor communications
  • Excellent written communications skills, with the ability to document technical logic in terms non-technical stakeholders can use
  • Experience at a SaaS company with $50 to $100 million in annual recurring revenue (ARR), with fluency in core SaaS metrics (ARR, NRR, CAC, LTV, Rule of 40, and similar) and how they are typically defined, calculated, and audited. This role must speak the language of the business, not just the language of data

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience building a data function from the ground up, including tool selection
  • Experience preparing for future data science, machine learning, or predictive analytics capability, even if not building it immediately

Salary Range
$175-200,000 DOE
