POSITION SUMMARY & RESPONSIBILITIES:
The BI Developer / Analyst is a key member of Diversified Energy Company's Business Intelligence & Analytics team, responsible for developing and administering DEC's Power BI and Microsoft Fabric environment, delivering high-quality reports and semantic models, and serving as the primary point of contact for BI intake and governance. This role bridges the technical and business sides of analytics - partnering directly with business units to define requirements and translate them into trusted, actionable data products.
The ideal candidate brings strong Power BI development fundamentals (DAX, Power Query, semantic modeling), working familiarity with Snowflake, and the interpersonal skills to act as a data evangelist across the organization. This is a hands-on, high-visibility role on a small team building a modern data platform, where the right person will have meaningful impact from day one. This role will focus on development responsibilities ~85%-90% of the day.
Key Responsibilities:
Power BI Platform Ownership
  • Serve as the primary administrator of DEC's Power BI / Microsoft Fabric environment; managing workspaces, capacities, permissions, and governance settings.
  • Act as the main point of contact ("air traffic control") for all Power BI activity: intake, prioritization, and quality oversight of reports, dashboards, semantic models, and dataflows.
  • Design, build, and maintain semantic models, reports, dashboards, and dataflows that meet enterprise standards for performance, accuracy, and maintainability.
  • Support user enablement including; training, documentation, and coaching business users on effective self-service consumption.
  • Own Power BI ecosystem observability; monitoring tenant usage, activity logs, and workspace metadata via the Power BI REST API and admin APIs to support governance, audit readiness, and capacity planning.

Data Modeling & Development
  • Develop robust semantic models using DAX and Power Query (M), applying industry best practices for performance, maintainability, and semantic consistency.
  • Build and maintain Power Query transformations with a strong command of M, ensuring clean, performant data shaping within the semantic layer
  • Design and develop governed, production-grade reports and dashboards balancing visual clarity, performance, and adherence to enterprise standards for layout, branding, and metric consistency
  • Leverage emerging AI and agentic capabilities in BI workflows; including MCP server integrations, Snowflake Cortex Analyst, and Power BI Copilot to accelerate development, enhance governed natural language querying, and extend the reach of self-service analytics.

Snowflake & Data Platform Collaboration
  • Work within DEC's Snowflake-based modern data platform; read, understand, and consume Gold-layer tables and semantic views produced by the data engineering team.
  • Collaborate with data engineers to align on data model definitions, semantic layer governance, and query optimization.
  • Participate in data quality discussions and contribute to the documentation of business logic in Snowflake.
  • Develop governed front-end snowflake artifacts for enterprise-wide use.

Business Partnering & Requirements
  • Partner cross-functionally with business units to understand decision needs, define requirements, and scope BI projects.
  • Facilitate working sessions and requirements workshops; translate business questions into actionable data and reporting solutions.
  • Apply structured requirements methodologies to ensure analytics output drives real business value.

BI Champion & Center of Excellence
  • Champion a data-driven culture across DEC; advocating for governed self-service analytics, consistent metric definitions, and responsible data usage.
  • Bring a platform-agnostic mindset to analytics delivery; deeply fluent in Power BI and Microsoft Fabric, but capable of evaluating and adapting to emerging BI platforms
  • Contribute to the Power User Group (PUG) and broader BI community of practice; mentor business-side power users.
  • Stay current on Power BI, Microsoft Fabric, and Snowflake roadmap features; proactively recommend adoption of capabilities that advance DEC's analytics maturity.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
  • 5+ years of hands-on Power BI development experience, including semantic model design, DAX authoring, and report/dashboard delivery.
  • Power BI administration experience: workspace management, deployment pipelines, gateway configuration, and tenant settings.
  • Strong DAX proficiency; base measures, time intelligence, semi-additive measures, calculation groups or equivalent patterns.
  • Solid Power Query (M) skills for data transformation and shaping.
  • Familiarity with SOX compliance considerations in a BI environment; including change control, audit logging, and version management of reports and semantic models.
  • Exposure to Snowflake: able to read and write SQL against Snowflake tables, understand schema organization, and consume data from a cloud warehouse environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally with business stakeholders to gather requirements and translate them into BI solutions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to present technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Working knowledge of Python for data processing or automation tasks preferred.
  • Familiarity with dbt (data build tool) or similar transformation frameworks.
  • Experience in oil & gas, energy, or a similarly complex operational industry preferred.
  • Familiarity with Snowflake Cortex or AI-augmented analytics capabilities.

Office Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
