Job Description
Harborview Medical Center's Psychiatry Department has an outstanding opportunity for a Therapist, Behavioral Health Integration Program (BHIP).
WORK SCHEDULE
  • 32 hours per week
  • Day shift
  • This position is expected to be for a six-month duration.

POSITION HIGHLIGHTS
  • Be a core member of a collaborative care team that involves the patient's primary care provider, a consulting psychiatrist, social worker and other disciplines in the clinic.
  • Act as the primary liaison to the providers, relaying the consulting psychiatrist's medication and treatment recommendations.

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Support and closely coordinate mental health care with the patient's provider and other treating mental health providers.
  • Screen and assess patients for mental health and substance use disorders
  • Educate patients on conditions and treatment options
  • Support psychotropic medication management prescribed by providers, PCP or the psychiatrist, focusing on treatment adherence, attention to side effects, and effectiveness of treatment
  • Provide brief, evidence-based counseling (e.g., behavioral activation, motivational interviewing)
  • Facilitate referrals to appropriate behavioral health and social services (e.g., CBT, housing, substance use treatment)
  • Participate in regular case consultations and communicate care recommendations to providers
  • Engage patients in ongoing care and ensure appropriate follow-up
  • Track outcomes, document encounters, and manage caseload using MHITS
  • Adjust care plans in collaboration with the care team for patients not improving
  • Develop relapse prevention plans for patients in remission
  • Complete required training and participate in ongoing professional development

REQUIREMENTS
  • A Master's Degree in behavioral sciences, such as psychology, psychiatric nursing, occupational therapy, vocational or educational counseling, or social work OR Bachelor's Degree in nursing or a behavioral science AND three years' of experience in the direct delivery of professional mental health care.
  • Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and/or registration.
  • Care coordinators shall be qualified as a Mental Health Professional under WAC 388-865-0100, or licensed as an independent clinician counselor (LICSW or LMHC).
  • Successfully meeting HMC allied health credentialing requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively in a team setting.
  • Ability to maintain effective and professional relationships with clients and other members of the care team.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Comfort with the pace of primary care.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with primary care providers about mental health issues treatment.
  • Comfort with utilizing electronic medical records.
  • Ability to effectively engage clients in a therapeutic relationship.
  • Ability to work with clients by telephone, telemedicine, or in person.
  • Experience with screening and assessment for common mental / substance use disorders.
  • Working knowledge of differential diagnosis of common mental / substance use disorders.
  • Working knowledge of evidence-based psychosocial treatments for common mental disorders.
  • Familiarity with brief, structured counseling techniques (e.g., Motivational Interviewing, Behavioral Activation).
  • Basic knowledge of psychopharmacology for common mental disorders.

DESIRED
  • Valid/active Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) / Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) with WA state.
  • Experience providing maternal behavioral health.
  • Diverse candidates and bilingual candidates strongly encouraged to apply.
  • Experience working with underserved, transient populations.
  • Experience working with patients who have co-occurring mental health, substance abuse, and physical health problems.
  • Experience with evidence-based counseling techniques (e.g. CBT or PST).
  • Working knowledge of psychopharmacology.
  • Experience working with safety net providers within the community and knowledge of community resources.
  • Experience working with Medicaid eligibility programs, including SSI.
  • Working knowledge of SSI program requirements and compliant commercial billing.
  • Ability to work with CSO (Community Service Office) and managed care organizations.
  • Working knowledge of the RSN mental health system structure and regulations.
