What is a remote behavioral economics?

A remote behavioral economics job involves applying principles of psychology and economics to analyze and influence decision-making, all while working from a location outside of a traditional office. Professionals in this field study how people make choices and design strategies, policies, or products to encourage positive behaviors. Common tasks include conducting experiments, analyzing data, and collaborating with teams virtually. These jobs are often found in industries like finance, healthcare, technology, and public policy, allowing employees flexibility in where they work. Remote behavioral economists use digital tools to communicate and conduct research, making the role well-suited for remote or hybrid work environments.

How do remote behavioral economics professionals collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to design effective interventions?

Remote behavioral economics professionals often work closely with teams including product managers, UX designers, data analysts, and marketing specialists to craft interventions that influence user behavior. Collaboration is typically facilitated through virtual meetings, shared documents, and project management tools. These professionals contribute behavioral insights to guide experiment design, analyze user data, and refine strategies. Regular communication and clear documentation are essential to ensure that behavioral recommendations are seamlessly integrated into projects, even when team members are distributed across locations.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote behavioral economist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Behavioral Economist, you need a strong background in economics, psychology, data analysis, and typically an advanced degree in a related field. Familiarity with statistical software like R or Python, survey tools, and data visualization platforms is important, along with experience in experimental design. Strong critical thinking, communication, and collaboration skills are essential for interpreting data and conveying insights to diverse stakeholders, often in a virtual environment. These skills ensure effective research, clear communication of findings, and the practical application of behavioral insights to drive organizational decision-making.

Job description

At Netflix, our mission is to entertain the world. Together, we are writing the next episode - pushing the boundaries of storytelling, global fandom and making the unimaginable a reality. We are a dream team obsessed with the uncomfortable excitement of discovering what happens when you merge creativity, intuition and cutting-edge technology. Come be a part of what's next.

As we grow globally, we have increasing opportunities to communicate with and delight our members and prospective members in new ways. One of the primary levers for growth is developing new plans, with differentiated features and price points, so consumers can choose what is right for them.

As the Product Manager, Plans Innovation, you will be responsible for driving price-tiering innovation and new-feature development.

As a Product Manager, you will be expected to design, strategize, execute, and prioritize projects. You should be comfortable at the hub of a fast-paced environment where you interface daily with cross-functional experts. You can build consensus and alignment but are not afraid to push ahead when there remain some critics and lead in the face of ambiguity.

Location: This role can be based in our Los Gatos office (preferred) in a hybrid working model. This role can also be remote-based from the West Coast (PST timezone). Some travel to Los Gatos will be required if remote-based.

As a Product Manager at Netflix, you will:

  • Build a strategic roadmap and take product concepts from idea through validation, shipping, measurement, and iteration.

  • Lead a team of stunning colleagues across design, engineering, consumer insights, and data science to deliver outstanding products to our customers.

  • Build business cases and measure the impact of your product innovation, with your data science partners.

  • Author strategy memos and presentations, and represent your team's work to senior executives.

  • Deeply understand and socialize the evolving needs of our customers, with your consumer insights and design partners.

As the Product Manager, Plans Innovation, you will be responsible for:

  • Evolution of the plans offering, with a balance between global scale and local relevance

  • Exploration, evaluation, development, launch, testing, and iteration of potential new features for plan tiers

  • Collaborating closely with the pricing team, integrating revenue objectives into plans development

Ideal Skills:

  • Passion for Growth, Product, Pricing, and/or Behavioral Economics!

  • 7+ years of product management experience with a proven record of prioritizing and successfully launching impactful products or platforms.

  • Direct experience with growth, plans, monetization in a direct-to-consumer business, preferably with global scope where the consumer is paying for the service.

  • Ability to inspire, motivate and lead a cross-functional team - your ability to build strong relationships is critical to success.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills - especially when writing memos and presenting product ideas to partners across the organization

  • Comfortable using data to inform priorities and evaluate impact of initiatives

  • Strong instincts for outstanding customer experience.

  • Embodies the Netflix real values while also bringing a new perspective to improve our culture. We strongly believe that diversity of experiences, perspectives, and backgrounds will lead to a better environment for our employees and better products for our customers.

Generally, our compensation structure consists solely of an annual salary; we do not have bonuses. You choose each year how much of your compensation you want in salary versus stock options. To determine your personal top of market compensation, we rely on market indicators and consider your specific job family, background, skills, and experience to determine your compensation in the market range. The range for this role is $440,000.00 - $725,000.00.

Netflix provides comprehensive benefits including Health Plans, Mental Health support, a 401(k) Retirement Plan with employer match, Stock Option Program, Disability Programs, Health Savings and Flexible Spending Accounts, Family-forming benefits, and Life and Serious Injury Benefits. We also offer paid leave of absence programs. Full-time hourly employees accrue 35 days annually for paid time off to be used for vacation, holidays, and sick paid time off. Full-time salaried employees are immediately entitled to flexible time off. See more details about our Benefits here.

Netflix is a unique culture and environment. Learn more here.

Inclusion is a Netflix value and we strive to host a meaningful interview experience for all candidates. If you want an accommodation/adjustment for a disability or any other reason during the hiring process, please send a request to your recruiting partner.

We are an equal-opportunity employer and celebrate diversity, recognizing that diversity builds stronger teams. We approach diversity and inclusion seriously and thoughtfully. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, ancestry, national origin, caste, sex, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity or expression, age, disability, medical condition, pregnancy, genetic makeup, marital status, or military service.
