What is a remote BCBA (not autism)?

A Remote BCBA (Board Certified Behavior Analyst) not focused on autism is a professional who provides behavioral analysis services via telehealth or online platforms for populations other than individuals with autism. These BCBAs may work with clients who have developmental disabilities, mental health issues, brain injuries, or other behavioral challenges. Their work involves assessing behaviors, developing intervention plans, and supporting clients and caregivers remotely, using the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) outside the traditional autism spectrum context.

What types of clients and cases might a remote BCBA work with outside of autism services?

While many BCBAs traditionally work with individuals on the autism spectrum, remote BCBAs can also consult on a diverse range of cases such as behavioral interventions for individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities, mental health challenges, traumatic brain injuries, or behavioral concerns in schools and residential settings. Cases may involve developing and overseeing behavior intervention plans, training caregivers or staff, and monitoring progress via telehealth. This variety can offer professional growth and the opportunity to apply ABA principles across different populations and settings.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote BCBA in non-autism settings?

To excel as a Remote BCBA in non-autism environments, you must have expertise in applied behavior analysis, data-driven assessment, and a current BCBA certification. Familiarity with telehealth platforms, behavior tracking software, and HIPAA-compliant communication systems is often required. Strong soft skills include adaptability, clear virtual communication, and the ability to motivate and train staff or clients remotely.
