Job description

Bachelor's Degree

Strong in database design and data modeling

Looking for Snowflake, Azure, and Redgate

Title: Senior Engineer, Database Administration

Location Ohio - can be remote supporting EST hours or can be hybrid from OH

Duration: 6+ months with possibility to extend or convert (they will sponsor but must be able to convert after 6 months)

Job Responsibilities (listed in order of importance and/or time spent):

  • Produces and documents conceptual, logical, and physical database design.
  • Contribute to team library and knowledge base, establishing and documenting management maintenance procedures.
  • Works with both technical and business stakeholders to understand the database needs for projects. Attend requirement sessions when necessary, communicating any concerns to project leadership.
  • Assists development teams and data architects in query design and query performance tuning.
  • Makes recommendations and assess proposals for database and database query optimization, including making index recommendations and changes as needed.
  • Reviews and assesses proposals requesting changes or upgrades to the existing databases.
  • Reviews project database to ensure that they are built in-line with the stated design.
  • Translates technical terminology, concepts and issues in terms understandable to technical and non-technical management and resources staff.
  • Monitors, Documents and Manages and Analyzes assigned databases and systems to established service levels and ensure they comply with documented standards and policies.
  • Attend and participate in ad-hoc and weekly Change Review Meetings, providing input as needed.
  • Contributes to the development and regular testing of Business Continuity solutions for the database environment, including the installation and configuration of database software and replication processes.
  • Participate in regular Audit Activities as requested and assigned to assure compliance with industry standards and governance.
  • Available on call 24/7 as required, by cellphone, with a rotation schedule, every 3rd week (rotating on Wednesday's)

Basic Qualifications

  • Advanced level skill with database management tools, methodologies, and technologies, managing complex database environments for transactional or business analytics functions. Expertise to be demonstrated through articulate ability to design and explain the benefits and limitations of different architecture and procedural solutions for such requirements as disaster recovery, high availability, clustering, virtualization change tracking and partitioning, backup and replication techniques to achieve RPO (recovery point objective) and RTO (recovery time objective).
  • Experience using analytical skills, tools and techniques to investigate information and to draw conclusions.
  • Experience in identifying operational issues and recommending and implementing strategies to resolve problems.
  • Experience with GitHub / CICD.
  • Experience with SnowFlake / Azure Cloud based systems.
  • Experience with RedGate.
  • Experience in diagnosing, isolating, and resolving complex issues and recommending and implementing strategies to resolve problems.
  • Strong skills / experience with the implementation and management of change tracking and partitioning.
  • Adaptable to change and able to work independently and effectively with and as part of a team or with minimal supervision.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and writing skills.
  • Capable of managing multiple projects concurrently while maintaining a high level of attention to detail on each project.
  • Strong analytical / analysis skills with the ability to collect, validate, organize, disseminate, and present significant amounts of information with an attention to detail and accuracy.
