GP Strategies Government Solutions has an opening for a Senior Systems Administrator. This position is a six month full-time, remote, temporary position with the possibility of becoming a longer-term role.
Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled Sr Systems Administrator to support secure, scalable, cloud-first infrastructure environments operating within a regulated government contracting and compliance-driven ecosystem.
The ideal candidate has deep hands-on experience supporting production Linux and Windows environments in AWS Gov Cloud, understands security-first cloud operations, and can independently engineer, automate, secure, optimize and troubleshoot modern cloud infrastructure in environments aligned with NIST 800-171, NIST 800-53, CMMC Level 2, ITAR/EAR controls, and FedRAMP compliant environments. Experience in Microsoft cloud environments such as Azure Government and 365 GCC High is highly preferred.
This is not a traditional datacenter/server room role. This is a modern cloud infrastructure engineering position supporting distributed cloud-native systems and highly secure workloads.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Architect, deploy, and optimize secure AWS GovCloud environments, ensuring all solutions meet stringent government, cybersecurity, and compliance requirements (NIST 800171/80053, CMMC L2, ITAR/EAR, FedRAMP).
  • Engineer and maintain highly available, fault tolerant, multi account cloud architectures, leveraging AWS Organizations, SCPs, and modern cloud native design patterns.
  • Administer and harden Linux and Windows systems in production cloud environments, including patching, configuration management, identity/governance controls, and secure remote operations.
  • Implement and maintain cloud native monitoring, logging, tracing, and alerting, ensuring proactive detection, response, and continuous system optimization.
  • Automate infrastructure and operations using Terraform, CloudFormation, Ansible, PowerShell, Bash, and CI/CD methodologies to streamline provisioning, configuration, and lifecycle management.
  • Support and integrate enterprise data platforms and databases, including Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MariaDB, and cloud native services such as DynamoDB, Redshift, and OpenSearch.
  • Design and enforce security first operational practices, including vulnerability remediation, Zero Trust principles, IAM/SCP governance, network segmentation, and endpoint hardening.
  • Manage and optimize cloud networking and connectivity, including VPC architectures, routing, firewalls/security groups, DNS, certificate management, and secure hybrid integrations.
  • Administer and support backup, disaster recovery, and resilience strategies across distributed cloud native workloads.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline, automate, and modernize infrastructure operations, improving scalability, reliability, and efficiency across cloud environments.
  • Collaborate across IT, security, and business teams to support a fully remote, cloud first organization operating within a regulated government contracting ecosystem.

Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of hands on infrastructure and cloud engineering experience supporting production workloads in regulated AWS GovCloud environments, with a strong understanding of compliance driven operational requirements.
  • 3+ years operating in senior engineering or technical leadership roles, driving architecture decisions, cloud modernization efforts, and enterprise scale infrastructure strategy.
  • Proven expertise across modern cloud networking, SaaS administration, and distributed systems, including Meraki, VPC networking, IAM governance, and cloud native service integrations.
  • Demonstrated understanding of AI concepts and their application to cloud infrastructure, automation, monitoring, data workflows and integrations.
  • Extensive experience supporting government contracting or compliance driven environments, including NIST 800171, NIST 80053, CMMC Level 2, ITAR/EAR, and/or FedRAMP SaaS solutions.
  • Strong background managing secure remote, cloud first operations, including endpoint hardening, identity governance, and Zero Trust aligned architectures.
  • Exceptional analytical, troubleshooting, and problem solving abilities, with a consistent drive for continuous learning, technical mastery, and proactive improvement.
  • Must be a US person with ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. DOD/DOW security clearance. Public Trust clearance highly preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of professional experience and education.
