Remote Avionics Integration Engineer information

What are some common challenges faced by Remote Avionics Integration Engineers when collaborating with distributed teams?

Remote Avionics Integration Engineers often work with multidisciplinary teams spread across different locations and time zones, which can make real-time communication and troubleshooting more complex. Ensuring seamless data sharing, maintaining version control of software and hardware designs, and coordinating system tests remotely are typical challenges. To overcome these, engineers rely heavily on collaborative tools, clear documentation, and regular virtual meetings. Proactive communication and strong organizational skills are essential for staying aligned with the team and meeting project milestones efficiently.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Avionics Integration Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Avionics Integration Engineer, you need a solid background in electrical engineering, avionics systems, and integration processes, typically supported by a relevant engineering degree and experience in aerospace projects. Familiarity with industry tools like MATLAB, Simulink, CAD software, and certification standards such as DO-178C or DO-254 is crucial. Excellent problem-solving abilities, communication skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively in a remote, cross-functional team set top performers apart. These skills ensure the reliable integration and functionality of complex avionics systems, compliance with safety standards, and efficient teamwork across distributed environments.

What does a Remote Avionics Integration Engineer do?

A Remote Avionics Integration Engineer is responsible for integrating, testing, and troubleshooting avionics systems in aircraft while working remotely. They ensure that all electronic systems, such as communication, navigation, and control systems, work together seamlessly. This involves collaborating with design teams, writing integration documentation, supporting system verification, and resolving technical issues. Remote engineers utilize specialized software tools and may provide guidance to on-site teams during installation and testing phases.

What is the salary of an avionics engineer?

The salary of a remote avionics integration engineer typically ranges from $80,000 to $130,000 annually, depending on experience, certifications, and the complexity of projects. Senior engineers with specialized skills in systems integration and certification processes may earn higher salaries, especially in aerospace or defense industries.

What engineers make $500,000?

Senior avionics integration engineers with extensive experience, specialized skills, and advanced certifications can reach or exceed a $500,000 annual salary, especially in high-demand aerospace or defense sectors. Such roles often require expertise in systems integration, certification processes, and working with complex avionics hardware and software. Compensation varies based on location, company size, and individual qualifications.

Does NASA offer remote jobs?

NASA does offer some remote job opportunities, including roles like avionics integration engineers, especially for positions that can be performed remotely with the right technical skills and security clearances. However, many NASA jobs require on-site presence at facilities or launch sites, so remote work availability varies by position and department.

What engineers make 300,000 a year?

Senior avionics integration engineers with extensive experience, specialized skills in systems integration, and certifications such as PMP or security clearances can earn salaries around $300,000 annually. High-level engineers in aerospace or defense industries often reach this compensation level, especially with leadership roles or in high-demand environments.

Job Description:

We are seeking an experienced PMU (Phasor Measurement Unit) Operational Integration Consultant to support the deployment, integration, and operational use of synchrophasor technologies within an RTO control room environment.

This role focuses on defining and implementing operational requirements, enhancing real time situational awareness, and advising operations teams on the effective use of PMU technology and data to support stability monitoring, oscillation detection, and disturbance response.

Key responsibilities include integrating PMU data into operator workflows, developing operational use cases, supporting control-room visualizations / alarms, and ensuring alignment with NERC IBR (inverter-based resource) stability standards and Large Load Reliability guidelines.

The position requires close collaboration with operations engineering, EMS/SCADA, and OT/IT teams to ensure PMU capabilities deliver actionable, reliable operational value.

Required Skills

โ€ข 10+ years of hands-on PMU deployment and integration experience in operational environments (utility, ISO/RTO, or grid operator).

โ€ข Strong background in real-time operational applications of PMU data, including oscillation detection, disturbance identification, event analysis, and dynamic system behavior monitoring.

โ€ข Experience developing operational requirements, operator use cases, alarming thresholds, and control-room visualization concepts.

โ€ข Proficiency with PMU data quality assessment, IEEE C37.118 protocols, PDC configuration, and synchrophasor streaming performance requirements.

โ€ข Deep understanding of real-time grid phenomena such as oscillations, inertia, damping, and voltage or frequency excursions.

โ€ข Ability to translate technical PMU analytics into clear operator guidance, procedures, and training materials.
