Job description

Position Overview

Woolpert is hiring an Electrical Engineer to join our dynamic Buildings MEP team. This position could be aligned with our Coral Gables, FL, Orlando, FL or other regional offices and would support hybrid or remote working arrangements. This position will report to the Electrical Engineering Team Leader and is primarily responsible for performing electrical engineering technical work on various complex projects, mentoring staff, applying proficiency in designing, analyzing, and reviewing systems to ensure safety, sustainability, and compliance with industry standards.

What You Will Do:

  • Perform electrical engineering technical work for complex projects
  • Develop and modify models, plans, details, and drawings of electrical engineering systems and components according to established standards and modeling techniques.
  • Perform electrical design for various systems including medium-voltage distribution, microgrids, photovoltaic, battery systems, building power systems, lighting design, and low voltage systems.
  • Assist with technical review and provide high quality deliverables.
  • Perform electrical calculations including SKM analysis, arc flash, and photometric calculations (AGI or Elumtools preferred)
  • Interpret, define, organize, execute and coordinate engineering assignments.
  • Provide technical direction and support for multiple projects of considerable scope and complexity.
  • Apply or develop advanced theories, concepts, principles and processes in execution of quality deliverables that meet project/deliverable specifications.
  • Provide technical expertise and support in the project definition and planning phases.
  • Communicate new scientific methods, developments and practices through appropriate firm channels.
  • Develop and document standard practices and coaches and mentors other team members in skill development areas.
  • Act as technical expertise and representative of the firm at various functions, as needed.
  • Conduct training sessions for internal staff.
  • Participate in firm-wide quality initiatives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

What You Will Bring:

  • Must have a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Minimum of 7 years related experience
  • Registered Professional Engineer (PE) license
  • Experience in building power systems, lighting design, medium-voltage distribution, SKM analysis, and photometric calculations (AGI or Elumtools preferred).
  • Experience with building electrical system design for commercial, mixed-use, aviation, hospitality, and/or high-rise preferred.
  • Experience designing sustainable building systems, including familiarity with LEED, Green Building Institute, or other sustainability credentialing.
  • Substantial experience designing in Autodesk Revit 3-D modeling software and directing the preparation of construction documents.
  • Experience conducting QAQC and coordination of design documents between disciplines.
  • Must be able to read, analyze and interpret complex documents including scientific and technical journals.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for both internal and external relationships.
  • Must be able to respond effectively to sensitive inquiries from clients, regulatory agencies, and/or members of the business community.
  • Willing to travel to project sites or offices, as needed.
