What is a remote automation tester?

A Remote Automation Tester is a quality assurance professional who works from a remote location to design, develop, and execute automated tests on software applications. Their main role is to ensure that software products are reliable, efficient, and function as intended by identifying defects early in the development process. They use various automation tools and frameworks to create scripts that automatically verify software functionality, reducing the need for manual testing. Remote Automation Testers collaborate with development teams using communication tools and may be responsible for maintaining test environments and reporting test results.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote automation tester, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Automation Tester, you need a solid understanding of software testing principles, programming/scripting languages (such as Python, Java, or JavaScript), and hands-on experience with automation frameworks, often supported by a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with tools like Selenium, Appium, Jenkins, and experience using version control systems such as Git are typically required, and certifications like ISTQB can be advantageous. Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and strong communication are crucial soft skills for collaborating across distributed teams. These competencies ensure reliable test automation, efficient bug detection, and seamless remote collaboration, which are essential for delivering high-quality software products.

What are some common challenges faced by remote automation testers and how can they be overcome?

Remote Automation Testers often face challenges such as coordinating test execution across different time zones, ensuring reliable access to test environments, and maintaining effective communication with development teams. Overcoming these challenges typically involves using robust collaboration tools, clear documentation of test cases, and scheduling regular check-ins with team members. Additionally, leveraging cloud-based testing platforms can help maintain consistent test environments and streamline test execution, ensuring productivity and seamless teamwork despite the remote setup.

Job description

Arbital Health is a rapidly growing healthcare technology and actuarial leader that centralizes, measures, and adjudicates value-based care contracts at scale.ย  We enable payers and providers to design, measure, and execute value-based agreements with greater transparency, efficiency, and financial predictability.
We invest in hiring high potential and humble individuals who thrive in fast-paced environments and can rapidly grow their responsibilities as we continue to accelerate our growth.
ย
We were co-founded by Brian Overstreet and Travis May (founder & former CEO of LiveRamp and Datavant, the two biggest data companies of the last 20 years), and are backed by Transformation Capital, Valtruis and other leading investors. In our first 2 years, Arbital Health has established itself as a trusted partner for over 40 payers, providers, and other stakeholders looking to navigate the complexities of risk-based contracting.

We're looking for a QA Automation Engineer to lead and elevate quality across our SaaS platform and its expanding suite of AI-driven capabilities. In this role, you help drive quality across our engineering teams by designing and implementing scalable automated testing solutions focusing primarily on API testing, with additional responsibility for end-to-end UI testing. You'll work in an AI-native environment -- fluency with AI coding tools isn't just a nice-to-have; it's how we ship fast without sacrificing quality. You will collaborate closely with developers and product teams to analyze requirements, design automated test cases, and ensure high levels of test coverage and reliability. In this role, you will architect and implement scalable test frameworks, drive our automation strategy, and ensure robust, reliable releases.ย
This role might be for you if you:
ย  ย Thrive in ambiguity, value collaboration, and want to be part of a culture that supports rapid innovation without compromising quality
ย  ย Have proven success in creating comprehensive and maintainable automated tests for a fast-moving product
ย  ย Can design test strategies that blend automated regression coverage with targeted manual testing
ย  ย Have tested AI features in production and know how to validate retrieval quality and are familiar with hallucination risks and prompt sensitivity
ย  ย Have the experience and intuition to see around corners, identify quality risks, and implement preemptive solutions through automation
What you'll do:
ย  ย Write, maintain, and scale automated test code for the full stack, APIs, and data validation using modern testing frameworks
ย  ย Collaborate with product managers, actuaries, UX designers, and other engineers to design and implement automated UI tests, API tests, and performance monitoring tests to validate new features and detect regressions in existing features
ย  ย Own the QA automation lifecycle and continuously enhance the automation infrastructure
ย  ย Manage and monitor both automated and manual test execution to support continuous delivery
What you bring:
ย  ย 2-7 years of experience in QA Automation
ย  ย Strong programming skills and hands-on experience writing automation code (JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, or similar)
ย  ย Proven experience using automation frameworks for UI testing, such as Playwright, Selenium, Cypress, or similar
ย  ย Experience using AI tools to accelerate QA work - generating test cases, writing automation code, and analyzing test failures
ย  ย Solid understanding of CI/CD pipelines, build and release tools such as GitHub Actions or Jenkins
ย  ย A critical eye for implementing shift left and value over volume QA philosophies
ย  ย Excellent communication, collaboration, problem-solving skills, and an analytical mindset
ย  ย Prior healthcare experience is a plus
ย  ย Startup experience is a plus
Tools we use:
ย  ย Python, R, SQL, Next.js, React, TypeScript, Tailwind CSS, FastAPI
ย  ย Claude, Cursor, Gemini
ย  ย Infrastructure: AWS, Databricks, PostgreSQL, Airflow
ย  ย Testing tools: ย Playwright, Datadog, GitHub Actions
ย  ย Version Control: GitHub
ย  ย Team Planning: Jira, Confluence
$140,000 - $160,000 a year
Why Join Us?
We are assembling a team of creative, talented visionaries seeking to build a new technology that will change healthcare. You will be able to learn, build, and scale our team and technology in a collaborative, creative culture that values every team member.
ย
We Offer:
ย  Generous equity grants of ISO stock options
ย  We offer an exceptional benefits package with high employer-paid contributions for health, dental, and vision insurance
ย  4% 401(k) match
ย  Flexible PTO, a weeklong winter shutdown, and 10 holidays each year
ย  Occasional travel required - Quarterly team offsites
ย  The opportunity to build a critical software platform that accelerates the American healthcare system's transition to value-based care
ย
