We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Tax Controversy Senior Associate to join our Tax Controversy Department. This position is crucial in helping our clients navigate complex tax issues, including tax notices, audits, and debt collections. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, a deep understanding of tax laws and regulations, and the ability to effectively communicate and negotiate with tax authorities.
Position Responsibilities:
Tax Notice Management
  • Review and analyze tax notices received by clients. 
  • Communicate with clients to gather necessary information and documentation. 
  • Prepare and submit responses to tax authorities in a timely manner. 
  • Track and follow up on the progress of tax notice resolutions. 
Audit Support
  • Assist in preparing clients for tax audits, including organizing relevant financial records and documents. 
  • Work closely with the Tax Controversy team to develop audit defense strategies. 
  • Collaborate with clients and tax authorities during the audit process. 
  • Analyze audit findings and propose appropriate resolutions. 
Debt Collection Assistance
  • Assist clients in addressing tax debt issues and developing repayment plans. 
  • Communicate and negotiate with tax authorities to resolve outstanding tax debts. 
  • Monitor and track progress on debt collection efforts. 
Legal Research and Documentation
  • Conduct legal research to support tax controversy cases. 
  • Prepare legal documents, such as appeals, petitions, and settlement agreements. 
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant tax laws and regulations. 
 
 Client Communication & Stay Informed
  • Maintain clear and effective communication with clients regarding the status of their tax controversy cases. 
  • Provide expert guidance and advice to clients on tax-related matters. 
  • Stay up to date with changes in tax laws, regulations, and policies. 
  • Attend training sessions and professional development opportunities to enhance knowledge and skills. 
 
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business, or a related field
  • Must be in the process of obtaining certification as a current CPA, Enrolled Agent or licensed attorney
  • Previous experience in tax controversy, tax compliance, or a similar role is preferred
  • Strong knowledge of tax laws and regulations
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Proficiency in legal research and documentation
  • Detail-oriented with exceptional organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
$70,000 - $133,500 a year
The salary range for this opportunity is stated above. As such, an actual salary may fall closer to one or the other end of the range, and in certain circumstances, may wind up being outside of the listed salary range.
