Join a dynamic engineering team at Optum Technology in Hartford, CT, focused on building the next generation of intelligent, AI-powered solutions. As an Associate Software Engineer, you will work on an innovative portfolio of web and backend services, leveraging advanced frameworks such as React, Node.js, and GenAI-driven agent architectures (using LangChain and LangGraph). Primary Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable web applications using React, Redux, and Node.js.
  • Build and integrate intelligent agents and automated tools using LangChain, LangGraph, and other modern GenAI frameworks
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop robust backend services in Python and manage application data using MongoDB
  • Use enterprise-approved AI tools to streamline workflows, automate tasks, and drive continuous improvement
  • Evaluate emerging trends to inform solution design and strategic innovation within AI, ML, and software engineering
  • Design, develop, and deploy AI-powered solutions to address complex business challenges with an emphasis on responsible use of AI
  • Apply proven design patterns and engineering best practices to ensure clean, maintainable, and highly efficient code
  • Participate actively in code reviews, architecture discussions, agile ceremonies, and collaborative team environments

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree OR Equivalent Software Development experience (e.g., Associate degree in Computer Science with 2 years of software development experience)
  • 1 years of experience with our academic project exposure to modern JavaScript, React, Redux, Node.js, and Python
  • Hands-on project experience utilizing GenAI frameworks such as LangChain or LangGraph to build agent-based systems or tool integrations
  • Exposure to database management using MongoDB and RESTful API development
  • Familiarity with modern AI-assisted development workflows, such as utilizing GitHub Copilot or similar tools

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience contributing to the development of machine learning (ML) models, pipelines, or data preparation tasks
  • Strong grasp of software design patterns and architectural principles
  • Proactive attitude toward learning emerging technologies in AI, ML, and modern web development
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and a strong ability to collaborate within a team environment

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). No matter where or when you begin a career with us, you'll find a far-reaching choice of benefits and incentives. The salary for this role will range from $60,200 - $107,400 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
