Job Title: Front-End Developer / Learning Support Specialist (LSS)
Location: Remote - USA

Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Front-End Developer / Learning Support Specialist (LSS) to support a large online university in the United States. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience in front-end web development, responsive design, and web accessibility.
This individual will work independently and collaboratively with UX/UI designers, accessibility specialists, LMS teams, vendors, and other technical and non-technical stakeholders to develop and maintain high-quality, accessible, and user-friendly digital learning experiences.
The successful candidate must be comfortable working in a fast-paced remote environment and supporting urgent development, troubleshooting, and release requirements.
Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, enhance, and maintain responsive and accessible web interfaces.
  • Build solutions using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript while following established development standards and best practices.
  • Ensure front-end applications and interfaces comply with WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility standards.
  • Implement and support responsive web design across multiple devices and browsers.
  • Collaborate closely with UX/UI designers, accessibility specialists, LMS teams, vendors, and technical stakeholders.
  • Work effectively with both technical and non-technical teams to understand requirements and deliver appropriate solutions.
  • Troubleshoot, analyze, and resolve front-end application and user interface issues.
  • Participate in technical governance, development standards, code quality, release processes, and best practices.
  • Use Git for source control and collaboration.
  • Support integrations involving APIs, design systems, and deployment automation, where applicable.
  • Work within or provide support for Brightspace (D2L/Desire2Learn) Learning Management System environments.
  • Participate in testing and validation of front-end functionality, usability, accessibility, and cross-browser compatibility.
  • Communicate technical issues, solutions, and progress clearly to stakeholders.
  • Work independently while managing priorities and meeting aggressive project timelines.

Required Qualifications
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant front-end development experience.
  • Strong hands-on proficiency in:
    • HTML / HTML5
    • CSS / CSS3
    • JavaScript
    • Git
  • Expert-level understanding of responsive web design principles.
  • Strong hands-on experience implementing web accessibility standards, particularly WCAG 2.1 AA.
  • Experience developing accessible and user-friendly web applications and interfaces.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Brightspace, D2L, or Desire2Learn Learning Management Systems.
  • Experience supporting higher education or online learning environments.
  • Familiarity with design systems and component-based UI development.
  • Experience integrating front-end applications with REST APIs or other web services.
  • Knowledge of deployment automation and modern development/release processes.
  • Experience working with accessibility teams and conducting accessibility remediation.
