Job description

Position Summary...The Principal Software and Infrastructure Engineer, DS Core leads the design, implementation, and ongoing evolution of Walmart's enterprise-scale Active Directory Service Fabric. They will serve as a Strategic Infrastructure & Platform Automation Lead that will require deep technical expertise to architect a secure, highly available hybrid environment that seamlessly integrates physical and virtual identity infrastructure. The ideal candidate drives architectural decisions and strategic roadmaps with an "Automation First" mindset, ensuring the scalability and resilience of the organization's foundational identity platform regardless of the underlying hardware.What you'll do...
  • Architect and deploy a secure, highly available Active Directory Service Fabric spanning multiple environments, domains, and forests.
  • Provide expert operational oversight for core directory services, specifically LDAP, Replication (SYSVOL and Active Directory), and Kerberos on Domain Controllers.
  • Lead the design of a hybrid architecture that optimizes resource utilization across both physical and virtual platforms.
  • Drive the adoption of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) to programmatically manage the lifecycle, configuration, and security of the identity fabric.
  • Design and implement Zero Trust security solutions, ensuring strict isolation of domain controllers from shared administrative access.
  • Ensure all AD architectures and controls align with industry standards (NIST, PCI DSS) and corporate security policies.
  • Develop and influence short- and long-term roadmaps for directory services, focusing on high availability and software-defined modernization.
  • Perform formal AD DS capacity planning and system benchmarks to ensure performance and scalability across the hybrid landscape.
  • Champion "Self-Healing" infrastructure initiatives, using automation to detect and recover from systemic directory anomalies.
  • Design, implement, and maintain advanced monitoring and alerting solutions to detect indicators of compromise and ensure operational health.
  • Consult with application, platform, and infrastructure teams on integration patterns and best practices.
  • Mentor engineers and provide technical leadership across teams to foster a culture of engineering excellence.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in enterprise Active Directory engineering and infrastructure architecture.
  • Proven expertise in both physical hardware lifecycles and virtualization technologies such as VMware or Hyper-V.
  • Demonstrated mastery of Automation and Scripting (PowerShell, Python, or Go) to manage complex server populations.
  • Deep knowledge of AD topology design, replication optimization, and security protocols.
  • Excellent communication, documentation, and project leadership skills.
