As a Senior Software Engineer at Walmart, you will lead the delivery of scalable, secure software solutions by collaborating with cross-functional teams. You will drive the full software development lifecycle, including design, coding, testing, deployment, and maintenance, while integrating advanced AI/ML components to enhance platform capabilities. This role requires strong technical judgment, continuous improvement, and proactive problem-solving to meet business objectives. You will contribute to engineering excellence through mentorship, innovation, and adherence to best practices, ensuring high-quality outcomes that support Walmart's mission and customer-focused goals.
About the team:
Our team collaborates closely with Walmart U.S. Stores and eCommerce to enhance customer experience by delivering innovative technology solutions. We focus on empowering associates, stores, and merchants through tools and services spanning groceries, entertainment, sporting goods, and crafts. Key areas include customer experience, store and associate enablement, in-store services, merchant tools, and merchant data science. By integrating advanced software development practices and leveraging AI capabilities, the team drives scalable, reliable solutions that support seamless shopping across Walmart.com, mobile apps, and physical stores, ensuring high-quality service and continuous improvement.
What you'll do:

• Lead the discovery phase of medium to large projects by developing highlevel designs in partnership with product management, project management, business stakeholders, and user experience teams, and secure crossfunctional approvals.
• Lead small engineering groups (4-6 engineers) by providing documentation, direction, and examples; identifying short and longterm solutions and timelines; reviewing proposed approaches; and conducting design and code reviews.
• Design and develop backend solutions using technologies such as Java, Python, Apache Spark, Google Cloud, Airflow, DataProc, BigQuery, and NoSQL databases including Cassandra and MongoDB.
• Provide expert technical guidance, drive crossfunctional alignment, and execute action plans that support customer and business needs.

What you'll bring:

• Extensive experience in software development with proficiency in languages such as Java, Scala
• Strong expertise in object-oriented programming, code review, debugging, and documentation-based coding practices.
• Proven ability to deliver scoped features and models through iterative development and continuous integration.
• Skilled in AI/ML integration and leveraging generative AI tools to enhance development efficiency.
• Demonstrated technical judgment in designing scalable, secure, and maintainable software solutions.
• Experience collaborating across teams to translate complex requirements into actionable technical solutions.

Nice to Have:

• Experience with Replenishment or Inventory systems and an understanding of how they operate.
• Handson experience with Agentic AI development.
• A passion for exploring technology outside of work.

The annual salary range for this position is $90,000.00 - $180,000.00 Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses. Additional compensation for certain positions may also include :
