Position Summary:

McKesson is seeking a Senior Manager, WMS SW Development and Modernization to lead multiple engineering teams responsible for critical enterprise applications on IBMi(AS400) platforms. This leader will drive software development strategy, modernization initiatives, engineering excellence, and delivery of scalable business solutions while supporting McKesson's digital transformationobjectives.

The role combinespeopleleadership, technical strategy, modern software engineering practices, and platform modernization. The successful candidate will guide the evolution of legacy applications using modular RPG, API-driven architecture, automated testing, Agile methodologies, and emerging AI-enabled development practices.

What You'll Do:

  • Lead software engineering teams responsible for enterprise applications on IBMi(AS400) platforms-mainly inthe Warehouse Management Space.

  • Define and execute application modernization strategies, including modular RPG development, API enablement, and legacy system transformation.

  • Drive delivery of high-quality software solutions using Agile, DevOps, CI/CD, and automated testing practices.

  • Partner with business and technology stakeholders to prioritize roadmaps, align investments, and deliver measurable business outcomes.

  • Establish engineering standards, governance processes, and performance metrics to improve quality, reliability, and operational excellence.

  • Evaluate emerging technologies and digital platforms to support innovation and long-term technology strategy.

  • Manage engineering managers and technical teams, including workforce planning, coaching, succession planning, and talent development.

  • Leverage AI-assisted development capabilities and modernization approaches to improve developer productivity and accelerate business value.

Basic Requirements:

  • 9+ years of software engineering experience, including 1+ year leading engineers, technical teams, or engineering managers.

  • Experience leading application development or modernization efforts on IBMi(AS400) platforms.

  • Hands-on knowledge of RPG IV, free-form RPG, modular RPG, CL, and enterprise software development practices.

  • Experience designing or delivering APIs, integrations, or service-oriented solutions.

  • Experience leading Agile software development teams and software delivery programs.

  • Strong understanding of software architecture, system design, andapplicationlifecycle management.

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.

Preferred Skills/Experience:

  • Experience modernizing legacy business applications and monolithic systems.

  • Knowledge of RESTful APIs, microservices, event-driven architectures, and cloud integration patterns.

  • Experience implementing CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices, automated testing, and quality engineering frameworks.

  • Familiarity with digital platforms and enterprise modernization strategies.

  • Experience managing budgets, vendor relationships, and large-scale technology investments.

  • Exposure to healthcare, distribution, supply chain, or highly regulated industries.

  • Experience with AI-enabled software development tools, code generation, code review automation, or application modernization accelerators.

  • Strong executive communication, stakeholder management, and organizational leadership skills.

Travel / Work Environment / Physical Requirements:

  • May require periodic travel for team, stakeholder, or business meetings.

  • Hybrid or remote work arrangements may be available based on business needs and location requirements.

  • Ability toparticipatein extended virtual meetings and use standard office technology and collaboration tools.

$132,300 - $220,500
