Baystate Health is seeking a visionary Chief Data & Artificial Intelligence Officer (CDAIO) to lead one of the most exciting transformation opportunities in healthcare.

This executive leadership role is designed for a bold, strategic leader who can harness the power of data, analytics, and artificial intelligence to fundamentally transform how healthcare is delivered, measured, and experienced. Reporting as a key member of the executive leadership team, the CDAIO will establish an enterprise-wide vision that positions Baystate Health as a national leader in data-driven, AI-enabled care.

RESPONSIBILITIES: As Baystate Health continues its digital transformation journey, the Chief Data & Artificial Intelligence Officer will lead the next evolution of enterprise innovation by developing a scalable, modern data ecosystem and AI strategy that delivers measurable clinical, operational, and financial outcomes.

You will serve as a transformational executive who partners with physicians, operational leaders, researchers, and technology teams to unlock the full value of data across the organization while ensuring responsible governance, ethical AI deployment, and sustainable organizational change.

Success in this role requires more than technical expertise-it requires the ability to lead enterprise transformation, influence executive stakeholders, drive adoption, and create lasting cultural change.

Key Responsibilities

Enterprise Data & AI Strategy

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive enterprise data and AI strategy aligned with organizational priorities
  • Establish governance frameworks for data quality, stewardship, lifecycle management, and ethical AI use
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory standards (HIPAA, HITECH, CMS)

AI Innovation & Deployment

  • Lead the development, scaling, and adoption of AI/ML solutions across clinical, operational, and financial domains
  • Identify and prioritize high-impact use cases (e.g., predictive analytics, clinical decision support, automation)
  • Oversee model governance, validation, monitoring, and bias mitigation

Clinical & Operational Impact

  • Partner with clinical leaders to embed analytics into workflows and improve patient outcomes
  • Advance population health, risk stratification, and precision medicine initiatives
  • Deliver insights that improve operational efficiency, throughput, and cost performance

Data Architecture & Technology Enablement

  • Collaborate with IT to design scalable, interoperable data platforms (cloud, data lakes, warehouses)
  • Ensure seamless integration across systems, including EHR platforms such as Epic
  • Enable real-time data access across care settings

Research, Innovation & Partnerships

  • Partner with academic and research organizations to advance clinical research and innovation
  • Support grant-funded initiatives, clinical trials, and translational research
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and strategic partnerships

Enterprise Leadership & Culture

  • Build and lead a high-performing data, analytics, and AI organization
  • Foster a culture of data literacy, innovation, and accountability
  • Educate executive leadership and the Board on data and AI strategy, capabilities, and risks

Governance, Risk & Financial Stewardship

  • Establish enterprise data governance and privacy frameworks
  • Oversee cybersecurity alignment, risk management, and compliance
  • Manage budgets, capital planning, and ROI for data and AI investments
  • Lead vendor strategy, partnerships, and performance management

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelors Degree, required
  • 15+ years of experience in IT, data, analytics, or digital leadership within complex healthcare environments, required
  • 10+ years of IT or business leadership, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role
  • Proven success leading large-scale data and AI transformations
  • Deep expertise in data governance, analytics platforms, and AI/ML applications
  • Strong financial and operational acumen, including capital planning and ROI realization
  • Demonstrated ability to influence executive stakeholders and drive cross-functional alignment
  • Executive presence with experience advising senior leadership and Boards

Note: The compensation range(s) in the table below represent the base salaries for all positions at a given grade across the health system. Typically, a new hire can expect a starting salary somewhere in the lower part of the range. Actual salaries may vary by position and will be determined based on the candidate's relevant experience. No employee will be paid below the minimum of the range. Pay ranges are listed as hourly for non-exempt employees and based on assumed full time commitment for exempt employees.
