Job description

Title: HR Generalist or Senior HR Generalist
Reports to: Sr. HR Manager
Location: Remote or Hybrid within KS, MO, OK, or TX
Budget: $60,000 - $80,000 DOE

About the Role
At PaulHood we are transforming the mid-market CPA industry with an entirely new model. Our year-round membership model provides clients with expert tax and financial guidance, helping them feel more secure and realize their long-term financial goals. Founded 30 years ago by Paul Hood, our company has grown rapidly and now serves over 15,000 customers nationwide. To support our continued growth, we have completely modernized our business with technology and processes more akin to a SaaS company than a CPA firm.
In response to this growth, we are seeking an HR Generalist or Senior HR Generalist to help manage and support the full employee lifecycle and ensure HR operations run smoothly. This role will partner with employees and managers to deliver high-quality service across compliance, benefits administration, onboarding, compliance, and HR systems. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in HR support, systems administration, onboarding, employee communication, employee relations, and employment law.  Additionally, as a Senior HR Generalist, you will serve as a trusted HR resource capable of independently managing day-to-day HR operations, employee support, and manager guidance across the organization.
To do this well, you’ll need to have 3+ years of HR Generalist experience and be highly detail-oriented, responsive, self-motivated, and eager to take ownership of both routine and complex administrative tasks. You’ll be someone who thrives in a collaborative environment, isn’t afraid to roll up your sleeves, and brings a positive, service-minded attitude to every interaction. You’ll also need to maintain confidentiality and professionalism while juggling multiple priorities with care and consistency.
What You Will Bring, Do, and Own
HR Operations
  • Managing onboarding of newly hired employees and acquisitions, including but not limited to communications both internally and externally, administering background checks, presenting and tracking onboarding paperwork and tasks.
  • Prepare, update, and manage HR documentation, reporting and data audits.
  • Maintain HRIS accuracy, ensuring employee records are current and serve as the organization’s source of truth.
  • Monitor and report on key people metrics including turnover, employee engagement, performance review completion, onboarding effectiveness, and compliance indicators.
  • Support cross-functional initiatives, involving organizational design, change management, employee experience and operational process improvement.
  • Support the administration of employee benefits programs, including enrollments, changes, and employee inquiries.
  • Support managers and Talent Acquisition in writing and creating new or updated job descriptions.
  • Act as a trusted point of contact for employees and managers, providing guidance on HR processes, policies, and best practices.
  • Managing the offboarding of employees, ensuring a smooth and compliant experience.
  • Manage the full semi-annual performance review process including creation, communication, launch and completion tracking.
  • Post on Teams, when appropriate, in Hood Tribe, Ask HR, Hood Training, and Hood Managers.
  • HR knowledge article writing, proofing, and publishing in NeighborHOOD.
  • Own Employee Engagement initiatives including annual engagement surveys and the purchasing and tracking of employee gift cards.
  • Recommend and implement best practices that support organizational goals and HR initiatives.
  • Participate in cross-functional projects, organizational change initiatives, and acquisitions as needed.

Employee Relations
  • Advise managers on employee lifecycle decisions, escalating complex matters appropriately while independently managing routine employee relations and performance situations.
  • Conduct thorough employee relations investigations, gather and analyze relevant information, document findings, recommend appropriate resolutions, and partner with management to ensure timely and effective follow-through.
  • Partner directly with managers to provide guidance and support to managers throughout the performance management process, including coaching, corrective action, disciplinary measures, and employee separations, while ensuring compliance with company policies and employment laws.

Compliance
  • Stay current on multi-state employment laws and regulations, benefits, and general HR practices.
  • Assist in updating and upgrading the company's employee handbook.
  • Assist with compliance initiatives, audits, and policy updates.
  • Ensure proper documentation, reporting, and confidentiality in all HR matters.
  • Coordinate responses to unemployment claims, employment verifications and support leave administration such as FMLA, ADA and state leave program and workers compensation.

Other Duties amp; Responsibilities
  • Assist in administering and processing payroll as a backup.
  • Present in HR meetings to employees.

Experience and Education You Will Need

  • Experience with HRIS software required, preferably Paycor.
  • Payroll processing experience is preferred.
  • SHRM-CP and/or PHR certification are preferred.

Who You Are
  • You excel at creating structure in fast-growing environments and continuously improve processes to support scale.
  • You have proven experience managing all aspects of HR and are committed to delivering excellence in support of employees, managers, and the organization.
  • You are personable and customer-focused, with strong communication and relationship-building skills needed to create a best-in-class employee experience.
  • You look for opportunities to automate, standardize, and streamline HR operations while maintaining a high-quality employee experience.
  • You are a natural collaborator who builds strong partnerships with hiring managers, employees, and team members to achieve shared goals.
  • You bring a positive attitude, high energy, and an optimistic outlook that helps foster an engaging and productive work environment.
  • You are highly self-motivated, proactive, and driven to take initiative, identify opportunities, and see projects through to completion with minimal direction.
  • You are a strong problem solver who approaches challenges with creativity, resourcefulness, and a solutions-oriented mindset.
  • You maintain organization and exceptional attention to detail while effectively managing multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • You remain calm, professional, and focused in a fast-paced and sometimes stressful environment, adapting quickly to changing business needs.
  • You are tech-savvy, proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite, and eager to learn and leverage new systems, software, and technology to improve efficiency and results.
  • You take ownership of your work, embrace continuous improvement, and consistently look for ways to enhance processes, support the team, and drive positive outcomes.
