What is a remote architectural professional?

Remote architectural jobs are positions within the architecture field that allow professionals to work from locations outside a traditional office, often from home or other remote settings. These roles can include tasks such as designing building plans, creating 3D models, drafting construction documents, and consulting with clients or teams, all facilitated by digital tools and communication platforms. Many architectural firms are increasingly offering remote opportunities due to advances in technology and the growing demand for flexible work arrangements. Remote architects must still collaborate closely with team members, clients, and engineers, often using software like AutoCAD, Revit, and BIM platforms. While site visits may occasionally be required, most of the design and planning work can be completed remotely.

How does working as a remote architectural professional impact collaboration with clients and project teams?

As a remote architectural professional, effective communication and collaboration are essential to ensure project success. You'll typically use digital tools like BIM software, video conferencing, and shared online workspaces to coordinate with clients, engineers, and fellow architects. While you may miss some face-to-face interactions, regular virtual meetings and clear documentation help bridge the gap and maintain strong teamwork. Being proactive in providing updates and seeking feedback is key to overcoming time zone differences and ensuring everyone remains aligned on project goals.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote architect, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Architect, you need a solid background in architectural design, building codes, and project management, usually supported by a professional degree and licensure. Proficiency with design software such as AutoCAD, Revit, BIM platforms, and collaboration tools like Slack or Zoom is essential. Exceptional communication, self-motivation, and time management skills help you collaborate effectively with distributed teams and clients. These abilities are crucial for delivering high-quality designs efficiently while navigating the challenges of remote work.

Remote Architectural and Remote Civil Engineer roles share similarities in requiring specialized licenses and working within the construction and design industry. However, they differ in focus: architects primarily handle building design and client interactions, while civil engineers focus on infrastructure and structural projects. Both roles can be performed remotely, but their core responsibilities and credentials vary accordingly.

About the team

The Application Solution Architect is a senior role within Kinaxis's Professional Services, Innovation and Data Science Services team. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across Product, R&D, Data Services, and Professional Services to deliver end-to-end customer projects for Enterprise Scheduling and other advanced planning capabilities.

In this role, you will help customers solve complex supply chain challenges by designing scalable, high-quality solution architectures. This role requires deep supply chain domain expertise, including a strong understanding of how supply planning and detailed scheduling interact across the broader supply chain landscape. The architect must ensure these processes are designed cohesively so planning logic, material feasibility, capacity assumptions, and shop-floor scheduling work together seamlessly to support feasible and efficient operational execution.

What you will do

  • Define and own the ES solution architecture-including functional design, data structures, constraint models, integrations, and system behavior-working in close partnership with the Solution Architect, where present, to ensure alignment with the overall endtoend solution architecture. In ESonly implementations, serve as the primary solution architect for the engagement.
  • Facilitate detailed scheduling blueprint sessions that translate manufacturing requirements into scalable configurations, defining heuristics, dispatch rules, look-ahead behavior, changeover logic, and constraint-resolution strategies for complex production environments.
  • Identify risks throughout the project lifecycle and develop mitigation strategies to ensure successful deployments.
  • Troubleshoot complex scheduling behavior and resolve data configuration issues, providing root-cause analysis and recommending appropriate configuration patterns.
  • Provide functional leadership and help to solve complex supply chain challenges and implementation support
  • Provide mentorship and technical oversight to consultants and partners on solution quality, scheduling implementation methods, repeatable architecture patterns, and deployment best practices, while overseeing delegation of configuration tasks.
  • Collaborate with Product teams on feature gaps, capability extensions, and areas requiring architectural guidance while influencing roadmap discussions through customer insights and solution best practices.
  • Support services sales opportunities by articulating solution approaches and value to stakeholders.

What we are looking for

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in industrial engineering, Supply Chain, Operations Research, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Statistics, Information Technology or related field.
  • Minimum 8 years of broad experience in software implementation consulting in the supply chain planning or supply chain execution space, including 3+ years as a solution architect or lead functional consultant for enterprise-scale supply chain transformation projects.
  • Excellent facilitation and communication skills; able to guide customer discussions across planners, schedulers, project teams, and stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in fast-paced, matrixed environments with strong initiative and leadership capabilities.
  • Advanced problem-solving and critical thinking skills with the ability to synthesize complex information and guide teams toward deploying high-quality solutions that align with the intended architectural design.
  • Proven interpersonal, leadership, and mentoring skills within cross-functional teams.

Role Specific Skills and experience

  • Subject matter expert in supply chain concepts and best practices coupled with in-depth experience with supply chain solutions and scheduling applications (such as OMP, SAP PPDS, Blue Yonder, or o9 Production Scheduling).
  • Experience producing detailed blueprints that translate scheduling requirements into technical specifications during software implementations.
  • Technical leadership experience in data integration, data management, system configuration and system deployment for supply chain software implementations.
  • Proficiency with SQL, JavaScript, or scripting languages used in solution configuration.
  • Willing and able to travel between 50% to 75% annually

Work With Impact: Our platform directly helps companies power the world's supply chains. We see the results of what we do out in the world every day, when we see store shelves stocked, when medications are available for our loved ones, and so much more.

Work with Fortune 500 Brands: Companies across industries trust us to help them take control of their integrated business planning and digital supply chain. Some of our customers include Lockheed Martin, Unilever, P&G, ExxonMobil, Cisco and more.

Social Responsibility at Kinaxis: Our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee weighs in on hiring practices, talent assessment training materials, and mandatory training on unconscious bias and inclusion fundamentals. Sustainability is key to what we do and we're committed to a long-term net-zero operations strategy. We are involved in our communities and support causes where we can make the most impact.

People matter at Kinaxis and here are some of the perks and benefits we offer, which may vary by location and employee:

  • Flexible vacation and Kinaxis Days (company-wide days off)
  • Flexible work options
  • Physical and mental well-being programs
  • Regularly scheduled virtual fitness classes
  • Mentorship programs, training, and career development
  • Recognition programs and referral rewards
