Position Summary
The role of the Public Safety Security Officer is to promote lawful behavior and protect the welfare of students, faculty, staff, patients, and visitors through uniformed presence on campus and in the hospital environment. Officers perform uniformed foot and vehicle security patrols, monitor using surveillance systems, secure buildings and property, respond to and make report of suspicious behavior, disturbances, and thefts. Security officers maintain order as assigned or until law enforcement personnel are available. Provide security as necessary for special events.
This is a full time position in a 24/7 operation. Availability for work must be conducive to our responsibility for 24 hour coverage. This includes but is not limited to the ability to work days, evening, and overnight shifts, weekends, holidays, mandatory overtime, and pre-scheduled special events. Work hours are initially assigned to accommodate training and immediate scheduling needs. Schedule is then determined by periodic bid process.
Officers respond to emergencies within hospital and clinic areas. They fit test and train in the use of specialized protective gear used when responding to calls for service where there is a potential for communicable illnesses. This special protective gear requires contact with smooth skin, therefore officers must not wear beards.
