Remote Animation Sound Design information

What is remote animation sound design?

Remote animation sound design is the process of creating, editing, and integrating audio elements—such as sound effects, dialogue, and music—for animated projects while working from a location outside of a traditional studio, often from home. Sound designers collaborate with animators, directors, and other team members using digital tools and communication platforms to ensure the audio complements the visuals. This role requires a strong understanding of both audio production and animation workflows, as well as proficiency with digital audio workstations and sound libraries. As remote work becomes more common, animation studios increasingly rely on remote sound designers to bring their animated stories to life.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote animation sound designer?

To thrive as a Remote Animation Sound Designer, you need expertise in audio production, sound editing, and a solid understanding of animation timing, often supported by a relevant degree or industry experience. Proficiency with digital audio workstations (DAWs) such as Pro Tools or Adobe Audition, as well as knowledge of sound libraries and synchronization software, is typically required. Creativity, strong communication, and time management skills are crucial for collaborating remotely with animation teams and meeting production deadlines. These skills ensure the creation of immersive, well-synced audio that enhances the storytelling and emotional impact of animated projects.

What are the common challenges faced by remote animation sound designers, and how can they be effectively managed?

Remote animation sound designers often encounter challenges such as coordinating with animation teams across different time zones, ensuring seamless communication regarding creative direction, and managing file sharing securely. To address these, it's important to establish clear communication channels (like scheduled video calls and project management tools), use reliable collaborative platforms for sharing large audio files, and set well-defined milestones to keep everyone aligned. Proactive communication and regular feedback sessions can help maintain a cohesive workflow and ensure that the sound design aligns with the animation team's vision.

What is the difference between Remote Animation Sound Design vs Remote Video Editor?

Remote Animation Sound Design focuses on creating and editing audio elements to complement animated visuals, requiring sound editing and synchronization skills. Remote Video Editors handle assembling footage, applying effects, and finalizing videos. While both roles work remotely and require technical editing skills, their focus areas differ: one centers on sound, the other on visual editing.

Job description

CoreWeave is The Essential Cloud for AI™. Built for pioneers by pioneers, CoreWeave delivers a platform of technology, tools, and teams that enables innovators to build and scale AI with confidence. Trusted by leading AI labs, startups, and global enterprises, CoreWeave combines superior infrastructure performance with deep technical expertise to accelerate breakthroughs and turn compute into capability. Founded in 2017, CoreWeave became a publicly traded company (Nasdaq: CRWV) in March 2025. Learn more at www.coreweave.com.
What You'll Do:

The Data Center Design team is the technical engineering team responsible for the architectural and infrastructure design standards across CoreWeave's global portfolio, ensuring facilities are highly scalable, efficient, and optimized to support next-generation, high-density compute workloads. The team governs the entire design lifecycle from early-stage site feasibility through final technology fit-out, establishing the foundation for seamless construction and long-term operational success. Through continuous technical innovation and standardization, they enable CoreWeave to rapidly and reliably scale its physical footprint to meet global infrastructure demands.

About the role:

The Senior Manager, White Space Design leads the design of white space infrastructure and fit-out across CoreWeave's expanding data center portfolio. In this role, you will own the development and administration of the White Space Basis of Design while performing comprehensive technical reviews of infrastructure layouts, power distribution, and cooling configurations. You will act as both a hands-on technical expert and a manager of internal and external design resources, including third-party consultants. Additionally, you will collaborate daily with cross-functional construction and operations teams to ensure all designs are scalable, constructable, and seamlessly handed off for deployment.

The Senior Manager, White Space Design owns the end-to-end design strategy, development, and administration of the White Space Basis of Design across CoreWeave's global data center portfolio. On a day-to-day basis, you will perform deep-dive technical reviews of infrastructure layouts, high-density cooling configurations (such as remote CDUs and containment systems), power distribution strategies, and low-voltage pathways to proactively eliminate gaps in coordination and constructability. You will act as a hands-on technical subject matter expert, balancing direct design production and engineering work with the management and mentorship of internal design engineers and external engineering consultants. Ultimately, you will drive daily cross-functional alignment with Construction, Operations, Network Engineering, and Commissioning teams to guarantee that all white space designs are scalable, operationally sound, and seamlessly transitioned from concept through construction handoff.

Who You Are:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 15+ years of experience in data center design, mission-critical infrastructure engineering, or white space design leadership.
  • Direct experience with data center white space infrastructure systems, including PDUs, RPPs, busways, branch circuits, hot aisle containment systems, remote CDUs, fan walls, and high-density cooling strategies.
  • Experience working as a consulting engineer, design consultant, or owner's representative overseeing third-party design consultants.
  • Documented knowledge of low voltage infrastructure systems, including structured cabling, ladder rack, cable tray systems, overhead conveyance, and network pathway coordination.
  • Documentation & Review: Experience reviewing and interpreting construction drawings, shop drawings, submittals, RFIs, and design change documentation.
  • Software Proficiency: Hands-on proficiency with engineering and project management tools, specifically AutoCAD, Revit, Bluebeam, Asana, Smartsheets, or equivalent platforms.
  • Industry Standards: Compliance and working knowledge of data center design standards and industry guidelines, including TIA-942, BICSI, ASHRAE, NFPA, and Uptime Institute.

Preferred:

  • Professional Engineer (PE), Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD), or Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
  • Experience supporting hyperscale, High-Performance Computing (HPC), or high-density compute environments.
  • Practical familiarity with capacity planning, scalability modeling, and design standardization.

Wondering if you're a good fit? We believe in investing in our people, and value candidates who can bring their own diversified experiences to our teams – even if you aren't a 100% skill or experience match. Here are a few qualities we've found compatible with our team. If some of this describes you, we'd love to talk.

  • You love to own complex infrastructure projects end-to-end.
  • You're curious about improving scalability, reliability, and design efficiency.
  • You're an expert in white space design, Low Voltage systems, and network infrastructure.
