Job Description

AECOM is seeking a talented and motivated Digital Infrastructure Design Manager to support the planning, design, and delivery of global digital infrastructure projects with a primary focus on submarine cable landing stations, terrestrial networks, and hyperscale data center infrastructure

This position is fully remote and may be based anywhere within the United States. 

The successful candidate will lead multidisciplinary teams delivering cable landing station facilities, fiber optic infrastructure, network operations facilities, edge compute environments, and related communications infrastructure projects. The role requires strong project leadership skills, technical coordination experience, and the ability to work with both domestic and international clients across the telecommunications and digital infrastructure sectors.

Job Responsibilities 

  • Lead the planning, design, and delivery of digital infrastructure projects from site selection through design and delivery. 
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary design teams including civil, structural, architectural, mechanical, electrical, telecommunications, security, environmental, and permitting disciplines. 
  • Manage project scope, schedule, budget, quality, and risk throughout all project phases.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, stakeholders, and project partners. 
  • Support site due diligence, feasibility evaluations, and infrastructure planning activities. 
  • Lead design coordination for cable landing station facilities, backhaul fiber routes, network support facilities, and related telecommunications infrastructure. 
  • Coordinate utility, power, resiliency, security, and operational requirements associated with mission-critical communications facilities. 
  • Facilitate design workshops, technical reviews, and interdisciplinary coordination meetings. 
  • Identify project risks and develop mitigation strategies to support successful project outcomes. 
  • Review design deliverables to ensure compliance with client requirements, industry standards, and AECOM quality processes. 
  • Support construction administration activities including RFI responses, submittal reviews, field coordination, and commissioning support. 
  • Contribute to proposal development, project pursuits, and strategic business growth initiatives. 
  • Develop and maintain strong client relationships while identifying opportunities for additional services. 
  • Mentor junior staff and support the continued growth of AECOM's Digital Infrastructure practice. 
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications 

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Telecommunications, Architecture, Construction Management, Information Technology, or a related field + 8 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Professional Engineer (PE) or similar industry certification.
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating multidisciplinary engineering and design teams.
  • Experience managing project schedules, budgets, and client communications. 
  • Strong written, verbal, and presentation communication skills. 
  • Experience supporting telecommunications, digital infrastructure, fiber networks, mission critical facilities, utility infrastructure, cable landing station, broadband, carrier, network infrastructure, data center projects, or related project delivery environments.  
  • Experience with submarine cable systems, cable landing stations, terrestrial backhaul networks, dark fiber infrastructure, or carrier-neutral facilities. 
  • Experience supporting international telecommunications infrastructure projects. 
  • Familiarity with telecommunications facility design, network resiliency requirements, mission-critical infrastructure. 
  • Experience with permitting, utility coordination, and environmental review processes. 
  • Knowledge of BIM/Revit, Bluebeam, fiber network planning tools, Civil3-D or related design technologies. 
  • Strong stakeholder management and client relationship skills. 
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple concurrent projects in fast-paced environments. 
  • Proven leadership and team development capabilities.

  • Domestic and international travel may be required to support client meetings, site assessments, design workshops, key project milestones, and construction activities.
