Remote Algorithmic Trading Quant information

What is a remote algorithmic trading quant?

A Remote Algorithmic Trading Quant is a quantitative analyst who develops, tests, and implements mathematical models and trading algorithms for financial markets while working off-site or from home. They analyze large datasets, identify trading opportunities, and use programming languages like Python or C++ to automate trading strategies. Their work is vital for firms seeking to gain a competitive edge through data-driven, automated trading, and being remote allows them to collaborate with global teams or firms without being physically present in a traditional office setting.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote algorithmic trading quant?

To thrive as a Remote Algorithmic Trading Quant, you need advanced quantitative skills, strong programming ability (often in Python, C++, or R), and a solid background in mathematics, statistics, or related fieldsโ€”typically supported by a relevant degree. Familiarity with trading platforms, financial data feeds, and version control systems, as well as experience with backtesting frameworks, is highly valued. Exceptional problem-solving, attention to detail, and effective remote communication are crucial soft skills for success in this position. These skills and qualities enable the development, testing, and deployment of robust trading strategies in a fast-paced, data-driven environment.

What are some common challenges faced by remote algorithmic trading quants, and how can they be addressed?

Remote algorithmic trading quants often face challenges such as ensuring robust communication with team members, maintaining access to secure and reliable data feeds, and collaborating effectively across time zones. To address these, quants typically use advanced collaboration tools, participate in regular virtual meetings, and follow strict cybersecurity protocols. Building strong documentation and leveraging version-control systems like Git can also help maintain workflow efficiency and code integrity while working remotely.

Key responsibilities

  • Build and refine algorithmic feedback loops based on customer search and evaluation signals.

Job description

Compensation: $150,000-$200,000 per year
Location: United States - Remote or Omaha, NE - Hybrid

The job:
As a Senior Product Manager at Buildertrend on our Search team, you'll shape how builders find exactly what they need across a large and growing corpus of project data. Search is the most explicit statement of intent a builder makes in Buildertrend: a change order from last month, the photo from a daily log three weeks ago, the selection a client approved. Today it's harder than it needs to be to find those things and you will have the opportunity to make a real difference in builder's lives by helping to rebuild our search capability. You'll lead the shift from traditional keyword search toward LLM-powered search that understands intent, including owning the product direction for algorithms that rank, personalize and surface results, and building the feedback loops that drive continuous improvement based on real customer behavior. Success in this role means measurably better search quality: higher click-through rates, better match quality and results that feel like they understand the builder's intent, not just their keywords.

What you will do:

  • Define product direction for Search, owning the roadmap for ranking, retrieval and personalization.

  • Lead the evolution from keyword-based search to model-based, LLM-powered search that reasons over both structured and unstructured data.

  • Build and refine algorithmic feedback loops: a customer searches, evaluates the results and that signal feeds back into ranking improvements.

  • Design and run evals that measure whether search and ranking models are actually getting customers to what they're trying to find.

  • Partner closely with engineering and data science on data aggregation and structure, model development and serving in production, retrieval strategies (including RAG) and ranking approaches.

  • Establish and track success metrics like click-through rate and match quality, and use them to prioritize model and product investments.

  • Validate opportunities through experimentation, comparing new ranking or retrieval approaches against current performance.

  • Build tight feedback loops with customers to understand search intent and where results fall short.

  • Communicate technical trade-offs and model performance clearly to both engineering and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Use provided AI tools (full Claude Code access, etc.) to develop and challenge your own thinking while maintaining full ownership of any AI assisted outputs.

Who you are and what you need:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required. A background in computer science, engineering or a related technical field is helpful.

  • 5+ years of product management experience required, including meaningful ownership of search, recommendations, personalization, relevance/ranking, or ad-tech systems.

  • B2B SaaS experience preferred; candidates from B2C search, recommendations, or personalization backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

  • Experience designing evaluations that measure whether a model is producing the outcome customers are trying to reach.

  • Proven record of improving search and relevance metrics (like click-through, match quality) and connecting them to adoption, retention, and revenue.

  • Experience running algorithmic feedback loops: search, result, evaluation and improvement.

  • Familiarity with modern retrieval and ranking approaches, including RAG and model-based search, is a strong plus.

  • Systems thinker who understands end to end workflows and dependencies.

  • Comfortable partnering directly with engineering and data science on model performance and trade-offs.

  • Strong algorithmic thinking and the ability to translate technical approaches into measurable outcomes.

  • Ability to make clear decisions in complex or ambiguous technical situations.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, especially translating technical concepts for non-technical audiences.

  • Comfortable using provided tools (full Claude Code access etc.) to explore the code base, pressure test technical tradeoffs, and challenge your own thinking while maintaining full ownership of AI assisted outputs.

We are giving you:

  • Exceptional health packages, including medical, dental, and vision coverage, plus life insurance and short- and long-term disability benefits

  • A 401(k) plan with Buildertrend matching contributions to help you plan for the future

  • Generous paid time off, 11 paid holidays, plus personal days to make sure you have time to recharge

  • Parental leave and paid sabbaticals to support you during life's big moments

  • Volunteer time off - because giving back matters

  • Wellness program and onsite fitness center to keep you feeling your best

  • Opportunities for hybrid or remote work to give you the flexibility you need

  • Technology reimbursement to help cover costs for the tech you need to do your job from home

  • Free daily lunches when you're at our HQ office, plus monthly events to connect with your team
