Remote Algorithm Engineer information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Algorithm Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Algorithm Engineer, you need a strong background in computer science, mathematics, and algorithm design, often supported by a relevant degree. Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, C++, or Java, and experience with version control systems and cloud-based collaboration tools are typically required. Strong problem-solving abilities, self-motivation, and clear communication skills are essential for excelling in a remote environment. These skills ensure the engineer can develop efficient solutions, collaborate effectively with distributed teams, and deliver high-quality work independently.

What is a Remote Algorithm Engineer?

A Remote Algorithm Engineer is a professional who designs, develops, and optimizes algorithms for various applications, such as data analysis, machine learning, or software development, while working from a remote location. This role involves solving complex problems, collaborating with team members online, and implementing efficient solutions to improve system performance. Remote Algorithm Engineers often work in industries like technology, finance, healthcare, and more, utilizing programming languages and mathematical concepts to create effective algorithms.

What are some common challenges faced by Remote Algorithm Engineers, and how can they be addressed?

Remote Algorithm Engineers often face challenges such as effective communication with distributed teams, managing their own schedules, and ensuring seamless integration of their work with larger systems. To address these, it's important to leverage collaborative tools (like code repositories, project management platforms, and video conferencing), maintain clear and regular communication with colleagues, and participate in code reviews and design discussions. Establishing a structured routine and proactively seeking feedback can also help in staying aligned with project goals and team expectations.

Job description

*REMOTE* Opportunity
Position Summary:
We are looking for an experienced remote Senior/Principal Satellite Systems I&T Engineer to support the functional verification and validation activity for aerospace projects. We're looking for candidates who can bring exceptional engineering skills and strong test experience in aerospace programs to the team.
Position Responsibilities:
The Senior/Principal Satellite Systems I&T Engineer's primary responsibility will be to support the U.S. satellite functional verification and validation activity. In this role, the engineer will map technical requirements to verification and validation strategies that ensure product quality, develop test plans and test procedures, and execute and report the test results. Being at the cutting edge of space technology, we need someone who is eager to learn, grow, and take on new and potentially unfamiliar challenges. There is no shortage of fascinating problems to solve.
Satellite Functional Verification and Validation 70%
  • Review the satellite functional specification and develop the test plan to verify and validate the requirements.
  • Design and build automated testing systems, tooling and/or ground support equipment (GSE) to optimize production and test workflow.
  • Execute and validate test documentation and equipment, then train others to run validated procedures/equipment.
  • Troubleshoot issues with hardware and/or equipment, collect and analyze test data, and write/review test reports, flags/non-conformances and other documentation, as required.
  • Demonstrated ability to participate in cross-functional planning, coordination, and task execution situations involving the full spectrum of engineering and integration activities.

Satellite System Architecture Development 30%
  • Support system architecture trade studies and requirements development to meet mission needs.
  • Revise the satellite functional specification for new mission and customer needs.
  • Generate system architecture data products, including spacecraft CONOPS, algorithm descriptions, and interface documents.

Qualified Experience / Skills / Training:
Education:
  • Required: Bachelor's degree in STEM (Science, Technical, Engineering, Math) or related scientific areas.
  • Preferred: Masters in STEM (Science, Technical, Engineering, Math) or related scientific areas.

Experience:
  • 9 years of aerospace experience, including 5+ years' experience in satellite operation and SEIT (System Engineering, Integration and Testing) on spacecraft.

Knowledge, Skills, Demonstrated Capabilities:
  • Experience with common Systems Engineering and Test tools (DOORS, CCS5, JIRA).
  • Familiar with satellite operation, and any subsystem engineering (Guidance, Navigation, Control, Power system, Data Handling, and Software).
  • Familiar with product and quality assurance principles and experienced in generation and disposition of test flags and non-conformance documentation.
  • Experience with object-oriented programming (C, C++) and scripting languages (TCL, Python).
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering documentation (e.g., electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, CAD models, wire lists).
  • Experience with the full Space mission lifecycle, including requirements development, design, manufacturing, test, and mission operations.

Travel Required:
  • Periodic travel (less than 10%) to facilities or partner companies.

Eligibility:
  • US Citizenship is required.

Clearance:
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a government security clearance.
