Location: Kennedy Space Center, FL
Remote/Telework: Full-time on-site support contractor position at Kennedy Space Center.
Clearance Required: Must be a U.S. Citizen and successfully complete a U.S. government background investigation.
Work Schedule: Full-Time

Position Summary

Aegis Aerospace is seeking a Mechanical Engineer – CAD to support engineering activities at Kennedy Space Center. This position supports mechanical design, CAD modeling, technical assessment, and analysis coordination related to spacecraft provider designs, mechanical cargo systems, and Logistics Modules for Gateway.

The Mechanical Engineer – CAD will develop CAD models for structural, thermal, and fluid analysis and work alongside members of an integrated performance team, including thermal, electrical, mission design, and space environments experts. This role supports spacecraft providers in assessing overall design maturity and capability to fulfill mission requirements.

This full-time on-site position is based at Kennedy Space Center in Florida and supports technical insight, design evaluation, and engineering coordination for the NASA customer.

Key Responsibilities:

The candidate will:

  • Develop CAD models for structural, thermal, and fluid analysis.
  • Work alongside members of the integrated performance team, including thermal, electrical, mission design, and space environments experts, to aid spacecraft providers in assessing their overall design and capability to fulfill mission requirements.
  • Conduct independent analyses and evaluate provider designs to support design refinements and provide insight for integrated performance evaluations for the NASA customer.
  • Perform technical assessments of provider design analysis.
  • Provide insight and oversight of the design, analysis, test, manufacturing, and operation of mechanical cargo systems supporting Logistics Modules for Gateway.
  • Prepare, manipulate, defeature, and export CAD models and STP files at various resolutions to support engineering analysis needs.
  • Support stress analysis activities and model input preparation for finite element analysis tools.
  • Coordinate with NASA, international, and commercial partners in support of technical assessments and design review activities.
  • Track multiple tasks and prioritize work independently to support program needs and technical deadlines.
  • Travel as needed to other NASA centers and commercial partner facilities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • BS degree in Engineering from an accredited university plus three (3) to five (5) years of related engineering experience.
  • Significant experience using CAD tools to open, create, manipulate, defeature, and export air-tight CAD models or STP files at various resolutions in Siemens NX and SolidWorks.
  • Experience with stress analysis methods and model input preparation for tools such as finite element analysis software packages.
  • Structural or mechanical system design experience, including familiarity with design and analysis tools and testing methods.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and develop cooperative relationships with NASA, international, and commercial partners.
  • Ability to track multiple tasks and prioritize work independently.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen and successfully complete a U.S. government background investigation.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience with hardware and/or operations in direct engineering experience on space vehicles is desired.
  • Proficiency or expertise in additional CAD and finite element analysis tools, including SolidWorks, Autodesk, Siemens NX, and NASTRAN, is desired.
  • Proficiency in one or more programming languages is desired.
  • Working knowledge and experience with NASA design and verification documentation and requirements is desired.
  • Experience working in an insight and surveillance role is desired.
  • Familiarity with NASA standards for structural analysis is desired.
  • Systems engineering experience or background, or a desire to learn systems engineering, is desired.
