Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems (NGAS) Global Surveillance division is seeking an Principal Engineer Software to join our team located in Melbourne, Florida.

This role encompasses responsibilities related to the deployment, automation, maintenance, and enhancement of systems and software infrastructure to ensure optimal operations. The successful candidate will demonstrate a solid technical foundation and a proactive approach to the software development lifecycle.

As a collaborative team member in our agile development process, the Engineer Software will assist in designing and implementing application builds, releases, deployments, and configurations. The individual will work closely with internal stakeholders to gather requirements and support the design of effective solutions while participating in building and testing activities. Additional responsibilities include conducting quality reviews, troubleshooting, and resolving operational issues.

The Software Engineer will support the integration, troubleshooting, and testing of new software modifications. Key aspects of this position include the ability to manage challenges with guidance and work effectively as part of a team. A basic understanding of the software development lifecycle is essential, along with familiarity with requirements gathering and model-based systems engineering (MBSE) to analyze and manage data sets effectively.

The engineer will engage in various aspects of the software development lifecycle, including requirements gathering, system design, application development, testing, integration, and maintenance. They will apply their technical skills to resolve integration issues and communicate effectively with system analysts, programmers, and users to ensure that technology solutions meet program objectives, which include documenting requirements and assisting in the development of test procedures.

Essential Functions:

Independently design, implement, test, and maintain software throughout the lifecycle while adhering to specified requirements and standards.

Collaborate within teams to integrate software solutions with other system components.

Utilize technical knowledge to contribute to solutions for complex software problems.

Analyze, collect, and report software metrics to ensure product quality and adherence to performance standards.

Participate in software working groups and support discussions with customers as required.

Implement and maintain software best practices across all phases of development.

Apply innovative approaches to develop software products from concept to delivery, ensuring quality and compliance with project plans.

Willingness to work off-peak for short term surge support to meet program milestones

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline with 5+ years of experience, a Master's degree with 3 years of experience, or a Ph.D. with relevant software engineering experience.

Solid understanding of object-oriented programming languages, including C/C++.

Familiarity and development experience on Windows, Linux, and RTOS like LynxOS or VxWorks

Experience with aviation software development or safety-critical systems, demonstrating an understanding of the nuances associated with safety-critical software development.

Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance. Interim DoD secret ok to start.

Ability to obtain and maintain any special program clearances as required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Evidence of experience with standards for safety-critical software development, such as DO-178C.

Specialist knowledge of avionics communication protocols, specifically ARINC 429, ARINC 422, and MIL-STD-1553.

Experience in testing methodologies pertinent to avionics systems, including hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) and software-in-the-loop (SIL) testing.

Knowledge of certification processes for aviation software standards, including RTCA/DO-178 for software.

Proven capacity to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team and demonstrate effective communication skills in technical discussions.

Comfort with agile development tools such as the GitLab tool suite, including proficiency with version control systems like Git.

Proficient in creating and maintaining comprehensive software documentation throughout the development lifecycle.

A current DoD Top Secret level security clearance is preferred.

Primary Level Salary Range: $98,400.00 - $147,600.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
