About the role
Join D-Wave as we launch our state-of-the-art facility in Boca Raton, Florida, opening in 2027. We are seeking two Service Engineers to be among the first members of this exciting new team, helping establish local service operations while supporting the next generation of quantum computing technology.
In this hands-on role, you will build, upgrade, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair the complex mechanical, electrical, and cryogenic systems that power D-Wave's Leapโ„ข quantum cloud service. You'll play a key role in ensuring system reliability, operational excellence, and customer success while helping shape how our new site operates.
Your journey begins with a fully supported training and knowledge-transfer short-term assignment of at our headquarters in Burnaby, British Columbia, where you'll gain immersive, hands-on experience with our cutting-edge quantum systems alongside experienced engineers. This position is located in Boca Raton, FL; where you will return after your temporary assignment and take increasing ownership of system support, operational readiness, documentation, and technical issue resolution. This is an exceptional opportunity for a technically curious, customer-focused engineer who thrives in a dynamic environment and wants to help advance the future of quantum computing.
What you'll do
  • Participate in quantum computing system builds, installations, commissioning, upgrades, and maintenance.
  • Troubleshoot and repair cryogenic, electrical, mechanical, vacuum, and control systems in laboratory and field environments.
  • Help establish service operations at the new Florida facility, including procedures, tools, spare-parts practices, documentation, and escalation processes.
  • Support production systems through scheduled maintenance, incident response, and participation in an on-call rotation.
  • Work with hardware and R&D teams to improve system reliability, serviceability, and operational processes.
  • Develop and maintain service procedures, troubleshooting guides, maintenance records, and incident documentation.
  • Build effective working relationships with customers, partners, vendors, and host-facility personnel.
  • Travel to customer and company sites as required.

Required
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, physics, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience supporting complex electromechanical systems in laboratory, production, or field environments.
  • Strong knowledge of thermodynamics, fluid systems, electrical systems, and mechanical equipment.
  • Demonstrated troubleshooting, critical-thinking, and organizational skills.
  • Experience with scripting, PLC logic, or programming languages such as Python or C/C++.
  • Ability to manage changing priorities and work independently in a new and developing operation.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including confidence working directly with customers.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with engineering, operations, facilities, and other technical teams.

Bonus points
  • Experience with cryogenic or high-vacuum systems.
  • Familiarity with Linux or UNIX, networking, and IT infrastructure.
  • Experience with P&IDs, fluid-control systems, PLCs, or electromechanical controls.
  • Experience commissioning technical equipment or launching a new laboratory, service location, or field operation.
  • Experience providing technical support for complex customer-deployed systems.
  • Current or eligible Engineer-in-Training or Professional Engineer registration in the United States.

Assignment and eligibility requirements
  • Willingness and ability to temporarily relocate to Burnaby, British Columbia, for a short-term international assignment for required onsite training assignment of up to 180 days.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain authorization to work in Canada for the duration of the temporary assignment.
  • D-Wave will cover eligible costs associated with the required short-term international assignment and training period. Additional details will be provided during the hiring process.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid passport and travel to customer and company sites across North America and Europe.
  • Approximately 10% travel is expected following the initial onsite training assignment.
  • Willingness to participate in an on-call rotation and work flexible or after-hours schedules as business needs require.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain security clearance.
