Remote Aircraft Interior Design Engineer information

What does a remote aircraft interior design engineer do?

A Remote Aircraft Interior Design Engineer is responsible for designing and developing the interior components of aircraft, such as seating, lighting, cabin layout, and in-flight entertainment systems, while working from a remote location. They use specialized software to create detailed designs that comply with aviation regulations and safety standards. Collaboration with other engineering teams and stakeholders is often done virtually, ensuring that the interiors are functional, safe, and aesthetically pleasing. Their work helps airlines offer a comfortable and efficient experience for passengers.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote aircraft interior design engineer?

To thrive as a Remote Aircraft Interior Design Engineer, you need strong expertise in aircraft interior design, knowledge of aviation regulations, and a degree in aerospace or mechanical engineering. Proficiency with CAD software (such as CATIA or SolidWorks), familiarity with industry standards like FAA/EASA, and experience with project management tools are typically required. Excellent communication, problem-solving abilities, and the capacity to collaborate effectively in a virtual environment distinguish top performers. These skills and qualities are crucial to ensure innovative, compliant, and efficient interior solutions while working remotely with cross-functional teams.

What are the main challenges faced by remote aircraft interior design engineers when collaborating with cross-functional teams?

Remote Aircraft Interior Design Engineers often work closely with manufacturing, certification, and supply chain teams that may be spread across different locations and time zones. One of the main challenges is ensuring effective communication and coordination, especially when discussing complex design specifications or addressing last-minute changes. Utilizing collaborative design tools, maintaining clear documentation, and scheduling regular virtual meetings are essential to keep projects on track. Building strong relationships with team members and proactively addressing potential misunderstandings can help overcome these challenges.

Job description

The role - what you'll do

Barr is seeking an electrical engineer to join our wind and solar collection team. In this hybrid role, you will support the power delivery team, working with multidisciplinary project teams providing electrical engineering and related technical expertise. The person in this position will also be responsible for managing projects, coaching and mentoring less-experienced staff, providing technical leadership, and managing teams to meet clients' needs.

A successful person in this role will have strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills. The ideal candidate for this position is intrinsically motivated and emphasizes client service. They enjoy working independently and as part of a team, using their technical ability and project management expertise for a variety of projects. They are flexible in working with their project teams and are willing to occasionally modify schedules to meet project deadlines and/or client needs. This person is also relationship-focused, as the role involves serving both internal and external clients.

Your impact - key responsibilities

  • Technical knowledge: prepare designs for DC and AC collection systems and power plant controllers. Projects will focus on design and analysis and will include preparing plans and specifications, writing reports, and developing cost estimations. The work will be related to renewable energy facilities.

  • Project management: proposal development including defining work scopes, deliverables, schedules, and budget. Assist in planning, coordinating, and executing projects. Help ensure project milestones are met and provide regular updates to team members and clients.

  • Staff development: support the growth and development of team members.

  • Collaboration: build and sustain strong relationships with clients and internal teams. Collaborate across disciplines to align technical approaches with client goals while contributing to a positive, inclusive team culture.

About you - required core competencies

  • Education: bachelor's degree in electrical engineering.

  • Experience:

    • At least 5 years of related experience working in a design capacity on projects directly related to job responsibilities described above.

    • Knowledge and experience with solar DC and AC solar collection system design.

    • Experience with power plant controllers.

    • Working knowledge of codes, standards, laws, and regulations applicable to the project assignments described above.

  • Licenses/certifications: Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain within one year.

  • Software: Microsoft Office.

  • Driver's license: Possession of a current, valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship by Barr, now or in the future.

Helpful additional experience (not required)

  • 10+ years of related experience.

  • Experience with collection system studies, including ampacity, short circuit, reactive power, grounding, insulation coordination, harmonic, and transient overvoltage.

  • Experience with energy storage facilities.

  • Authoritative capabilities and experience applying industry-standard resource modeling and assessment techniques (PVsyst, Windographer, etc.).

  • Experience with statistical analysis of solar and wind data, resource and net energy production forecasts (including uncertainty/variability analysis and loss assumptions), design, site conditions, and technology suitability.

  • Experience with data collection, post-construction measurement campaigns (including power performance testing), and project contracts.

  • Experience with AutoCAD.

About the opportunity
