Job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for an AI Tutor - Design Specialist based in Netherlands.

This is an opportunity for an experienced design professional to help improve the quality and capabilities of advanced artificial intelligence systems through expert design evaluation.
You will use your expertise in areas such as graphic design, visual and brand design, product or user interface design, web design, game design, or illustration to assess and refine AI-generated work.
Your design judgment will help distinguish outputs that are merely attractive from those that are clear, functional, accessible, and genuinely well resolved.
You will create high-quality reference examples, provide detailed annotations, and articulate the principles that separate mediocre, good, and exceptional design.
The role combines hands-on creative work with structured evaluation and collaboration with technical teams developing AI assessment processes and datasets.
You will work across a broad range of formats and creative briefs while maintaining a consistently high standard of visual quality and critical judgment.
This remote opportunity is well suited to a highly detail-oriented designer who is curious about generative AI and enjoys applying professional design expertise to emerging technology.

Accountabilities
  • Evaluate AI-generated and other design outputs across formats such as visual assets, layouts, documents, websites, interactive prototypes, games, and related creative work.
  • Assess whether designs are clear, functional, visually coherent, accessible, and effective in real-world use rather than judging them solely on visual appeal.
  • Identify weaknesses and clearly explain issues related to visual hierarchy, typography, spacing, color, composition, consistency, usability, and communication.
  • Refine, restyle, or recreate designs that do not meet the required quality standard, producing strong reference examples for evaluation and training.
  • Write precise, well-reasoned annotations and critiques that explain the differences between mediocre, good, and exceptional design.
  • Support the creation and labeling of high-quality datasets covering graphic design, interface design, web experiences, game design, and related design content.
  • Collaborate with engineering and technical teams to develop evaluation tasks, scoring rubrics, reference examples, and standards for design quality.
  • Apply sound design judgment across different specialties, styles, formats, and levels of complexity while maintaining consistency in evaluation.
  • Contribute practical insights into how generative AI systems produce generic, broken, inconsistent, or genuinely high-quality design outputs.
  • Adapt effectively to evolving instructions, project requirements, and evaluation frameworks in a fast-paced environment.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated professional design expertise in at least one discipline, such as graphic design, brand or visual design, product design, user interface or user experience design, web design, game design, or illustration.
  • A strong portfolio, personal website, Behance, Dribbble, ArtStation, shipped product, published work, or equivalent body of work demonstrating refined design judgment and high-quality finished work.
  • Strong command of fundamental design principles, including visual hierarchy, typography, spacing, color, composition, consistency, and clarity of communication.
  • Ability to evaluate design quality outside your primary specialization and clearly articulate what works, what does not, and why.
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills, particularly for producing critiques, annotations, and design rationale.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and the ability to maintain consistent quality when working across varied briefs and evolving instructions.
  • Comfort creating high-quality design examples and solutions rather than only evaluating existing work.
  • Experience across multiple design disciplines is an advantage, such as graphic design combined with web design or user interface design combined with game design.
  • Professional experience designing or reviewing websites, digital products, product interfaces, or games is preferred.
  • Familiarity with accessibility and inclusive design principles, including contrast, readability, target sizing, and information architecture, is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of modern design tools such as Figma, Adobe Creative Cloud, or equivalent platforms is preferred.
  • Familiarity with frontend technologies or game engines is an advantage but is not required.
  • Experience using generative AI design tools and the ability to recognize when AI-generated work is generic, flawed, or genuinely well designed is preferred.
  • Experience in design critique, art direction, quality assurance, design review, data annotation, dataset creation, or AI evaluation is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with collaboration tools such as Google Workspace, Slack, Notion, or similar platforms is beneficial.
  • Comfortable working independently in a remote environment with minimal supervision and managing priorities effectively.
  • Able to work remotely from the Netherlands, subject to applicable legal eligibility, time-zone compatibility, and role requirements.
  • Visa sponsorship is not available for this opportunity.
  • If working from a personal device, you must use a Chromebook, a Mac running macOS 11.0 or later, or a Windows 10 or later computer.

Benefits

  • Flexible remote work, with tutor opportunities potentially available on a full-time, part-time, or contractor basis depending on project requirements and candidate fit.
  • Contractor schedules offer significant flexibility, with no fixed hours required and the ability to determine your working time based on project scope and deliverables.
  • Projects may typically require around 10 hours per week or more to complete deliverables effectively, although this is not a fixed commitment and varies by project.
  • Opportunity to contribute directly to the development and evaluation of advanced artificial intelligence systems through professional design expertise.
  • Exposure to generative AI, design evaluation, data annotation, dataset creation, and emerging AI-assisted creative workflows.
  • Opportunity to work across multiple design disciplines, formats, styles, and creative challenges.
  • International and remote collaboration with highly technical teams working on AI evaluation and model improvement.
  • Opportunity to strengthen expertise in design critique, quality standards, accessibility, and AI-generated creative content.
  • U.S.-based roles offer compensation of $35-$75 per hour depending on experience, skills, education, location, and qualifications; international compensation information is provided during the recruitment process.
  • Benefits vary according to employment type, location, and applicable jurisdiction; eligible U.S.-based positions may include health insurance, a 401(k) plan, and paid sick leave.
