Job Summary 

Urban Grid is seeking an experienced Interconnection Engineer to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the interconnection aspects of the development of solar and storage projects. The candidate will establish interconnection queue positions, guide existing queued projects successfully through the interconnection process, and serve as the interconnection subject matter expert on assigned projects. The Interconnection Engineer is the key intermediary between the RTO/ISO, transmission owner and internal project teams. This position is responsible for establishing the interconnection strategy and assessing risk mitigation efforts for the project.

Responsibilities

Lead the development of interconnection applications for assigned markets (PJM, MISO, SPP, SERC) or regions including preparing and reviewing application documentation and identifying project constraints

Manage the interconnection study process for all assigned projects evaluating the varying reports to assess cost and timeline risks, communicating results to senior leadership

Develop interconnection strategy for assigned projects and ensure projects are aligned with company goals Monitor the interconnection queue projects and take part in stakeholder processes to assess changes that will affect the project pipeline

Work with Transmission team to assess network upgrades and congestion for the assigned projects

Serve as subject matter expert for the interconnection process for assigned regions

Negotiate interconnection agreements and evaluate Facilities Interconnection Requirements

Requirements

Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (B.S.E.E)

Excellent oral and written communication skills are required. The candidate must possess the ability to translate complex engineering analysis into executive summaries

Minimum of 3 years of experience in the electric utility industry, preferably with an electric utility company

Candidate must be able to visually recognize transmission, distribution, and substation equipment in the field Candidate must be capable of reading and preparing preliminary substation one-line diagrams

Candidate must be familiar with the basics of substation and system protection design

Familiarity with the FERC OATT and regional interconnection processes is preferred

Strong work ethic and exceptionally high work standards.

Must have strong organizational capacity to simultaneously manage multiple projects with competing deadlines and be able to quickly adapt to changes and shift priorities to meet project needs and deadlines.

Ability to work independently.

Location: Hybrid in Houston, Texas (4 days in office, Fridays remote).

Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. Visa sponsorship or transfer visas, including H-1B or L-2, are not available for this position.
