Remote Advocacy information

What is remote advocacy?

A Remote Advocacy job involves promoting, supporting, or representing a cause, organization, or group from a remote location. This can include duties such as lobbying, raising awareness, engaging with stakeholders, and influencing policies through digital communication tools. Remote advocates may work for nonprofits, advocacy groups, or corporations, using emails, social media, virtual meetings, and phone calls to communicate their message. The role requires strong communication, research, and networking skills to effectively influence decision-makers and engage supporters online.

What skills and qualifications are needed for remote advocacy?

To thrive in Remote Advocacy, a strong background in advocacy, communication, and policy research is typically required, often supported by a relevant degree in social work, public policy, or a related field. Familiarity with remote collaboration tools such as Zoom, Slack, and CRMs, along with knowledge of data management platforms, is standard in this role. Exceptional interpersonal skills, adaptability, and self-motivation help remote advocates stand out, as do strong organizational abilities. These competencies are vital for effectively influencing change, engaging stakeholders, and managing campaigns from a remote environment.

What are the unique challenges of working in remote advocacy?

One unique challenge of remote advocacy is building and maintaining relationships with stakeholders, partners, and team members without face-to-face interaction. Advocates must proactively use virtual communication tools to foster engagement and sometimes navigate different time zones and work cultures. Additionally, self-discipline and time management are essential for meeting campaign deadlines and managing multiple priorities independently. However, remote advocacy also offers the flexibility to reach diverse communities and collaborate with a broader range of organizations, which can contribute to both personal and professional growth.

Pay Rate: $33.33/HR

Shift: Mon – Fri 8am – 5pm

We are seeking a contractor to provide flexible operational support across our Customer Advocacy program. This role blends day-to-day program coordination with critical data management responsibilities, including file migrations, audits, and cleanup. It's a great fit for someone who is equally comfortable with content workflows and the behind-the-scenes data hygiene that keeps advocacy programs running at scale.

Job Description:

  • Advocacy Program Support: Assist with sourcing and maintaining the customer advocate pipeline. Support 1:1 reference requests, track usage, and help maintain accurate customer attributes in the reference database.

  • Content & Asset Coordination: Support the workflow for customer success stories and other advocacy assets from initiation through publication. Coordinate across internal teams to keep projects moving.

  • Speaker & Event Support: Assist with speaker list management, outreach coordination, and logistics support for events.

  • File & Data Migration: Support the migration of advocacy-related files, records, and assets across platforms and systems. Document migration workflows and flag data quality issues.

  • Database & Program Audits: Conduct regular audits of the reference database and advocacy program records to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with program standards. Identify and resolve duplicate, outdated, or missing records.

  • Process Documentation: Help document and maintain standard operating procedures for both program and data management activities.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

  • Basic Salesforce CRM

  • Strong organizational & project coordination skills — juggling simultaneous story workflows, approvals, and event logistics across many stakeholders

  • Clear written communication — drafting customer-facing FYI/approval emails, internal status updates, and slack follow-ups independently

  • Spreadsheet proficiency (Google Sheets / Excel) — the team relies heavily on shared customer story inventory trackers

  • Comfort with data quality work — auditing records, flagging discrepancies, resolving duplicates

Nice To Have Skills:
Basic understanding of PR or media relations processes (given the quote sourcing and press coordination work) 5
Familiarity with data/tech industry terminology — helps when working with product marketing on stories about MDM, AI, data governance, etc.
