Job Summary:
The Arizona Attorney General's Office, Child and Family Protection Division/Civil and Criminal Litigation and Advice Section (CLA) is seeking an experienced Assistant Attorney General to assist with litigation matters arising in the administrative law and civil law contexts and to advise and represent state agencies.
Attorneys in CLA utilize their legal skills and training to benefit the public interest while working in a fast-paced, collaborative setting that provides opportunity for professional development, increased responsibility, and broadening knowledge of diverse and challenging areas of law.
Remote Options: This position may be eligible for Remote Work two days a week.
Job Duties:
This position provides representation to state agencies in administrative, civil, and criminal proceedings. Attorneys maintain a busy administrative hearing schedule appearing before the DES Office of Appeals and the Office of Administrative Hearings and appear in court on civil matters. Attorneys advise state agencies on a wide range of legal issues, including legal matters involving compliance with state and federal law, employment issues, contracts and procurement, departmental policies, proposed legislation, and public records issues.
Attorney duties include:
โ€ข Analyzing complex and diverse legal issues, conducting associated research, and providing written and oral advice;
โ€ข Drafting pleadings, motions, memoranda, forms, and other legal documents; and
โ€ข Presenting arguments and evidence at hearings before state and administrative tribunals and handling any associated appeals.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

โ€ข Knowledge of civil procedures, filing deadlines, completing matters on a timely basis, and producing professional pleadings

Selective Preference(s):

โ€ข Travel is required for this position. A valid Arizona Driver's License is required, along with consent to have your driving record run periodically.
โ€ข Admission to, and good standing with, the Arizona State Bar is required (include on resume the date(s) of admission in Arizona and any other states). Candidate must have an active Arizona State Bar license.
โ€ข Attorney applicants are required to submit a writing sample with their resume/application profile.
โ€ข The writing sample should contain an analysis of some substantive legal issue and provide insight concerning your ability to think and to explain and advocate for a particular position.
