What does a Full Time Adoption Attorney do?

A Full Time Adoption Attorney specializes in handling legal matters related to the adoption process. They assist clients—whether adoptive parents, birth parents, or adoption agencies—by navigating state and federal adoption laws, preparing necessary legal documents, and representing clients in court proceedings. Their role is to ensure that the adoption is legally sound, ethical, and in the best interest of the child. They also advise on issues like parental rights termination, interstate and international adoptions, and post-adoption legal matters.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Full Time Adoption Attorney, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Full Time Adoption Attorney, you need a Juris Doctor degree, state bar admission, and expertise in family and adoption law. Familiarity with legal research databases, case management software, and court filing systems is typically required. Outstanding interpersonal skills, negotiation abilities, and attention to detail help attorneys build trust with clients and navigate complex legal processes. These competencies ensure lawful, ethical, and efficient handling of adoption cases, protecting the best interests of children and families.

Both roles require similar credentials and work in comparable environments, but differ mainly in hours and employment structure.

What are some common challenges Full Time Adoption Attorneys face when handling cases?

Full Time Adoption Attorneys often navigate complex legal and emotional issues, including varying state laws, strict court deadlines, and sensitive family situations. They must coordinate with multiple parties such as social workers, birth parents, adoptive families, and the courts, requiring strong communication and negotiation skills. Staying updated on evolving adoption regulations and ensuring all documentation is thorough and accurate are crucial to prevent delays or legal complications. Additionally, attorneys must be prepared to handle unexpected challenges, such as contested adoptions or changes in parental rights, with empathy and professionalism.

Compensation: $75,000 - $130,000 / two weeks
Description
If you are a courtroom-ready advocate who thrives on securing permanent solutions for families but is tired of the administrative burdens of solo or small-firm practice, we would love to connect.
At the Law Office of Bryan Fagan, we have built a streamlined system so you can focus entirely on your passion: practicing law at the highest level. We are a premier, trusted Texas law firm specializing in family law, estate planning, probate, and guardianship. With 14 offices across the state-including Houston, Humble, The Woodlands, Richmond, Galveston, Austin, San Antonio, Dallas, Fort Worth, Rockwall, and El Paso-we provide our attorneys with a supportive platform, collaborative team environment, and a true commitment to work-life balance.
What You'll Do
You won't have to worry about hunting for leads or chasing invoices. You will lead impactful adoption and family law cases from initial intake to finalization with the full support of our marketing and administrative teams.
  • Lead the Strategy: Direct private, agency, stepparent, foster care, and international adoption cases under the Texas Family Code.
  • Command the Courtroom: Represent clients in Harris County and surrounding courts with confidence and clarity during termination of parental rights and finalization hearings.
  • Litigate with Excellence: Conduct hearings, mediations, and consults using your deep knowledge of Texas adoption laws, regulations, and state agency compliance.
  • Provide Compassionate Counsel: Help families navigate their most emotional and rewarding chapters with results-driven, empathetic representation.

What We're Looking For
An experienced, compassionate advocate who is ready to thrive in a highly collaborative legal environment.
  • The Credentials: A valid Texas bar license for a minimum of 2 years.
  • The Experience: At least 2 years of dedicated Texas Family Law litigation, with a strong focus on adoption procedures (5+ years, preferred).
  • The Skillset: A strong presence in the courtroom and the ability to manage a busy docket with care and composure. You are a highly organized advocate experienced in drafting adoption petitions, agreements, pleadings, and discovery with exceptional attention to detail.
  • The Tech: Proficient in Clio, TxDoc, Google Suite, or similar drafting and client management software.

What You'll Get
We value your expertise and compensate accordingly, offering the infrastructure of a large firm alongside a warm, people-first culture.
  • Competitive Earnings: $80k - $130k Base (commensurate with experience) + an attractive bi-weekly billable hour bonus structure with $70k+ annual upside.
  • The Essentials: 401(k) with up to 5% company match. Affordable Medical, Dental, and Vision plans with Short/Long Term Disability and Voluntary Term Life Insurance.
  • Real Balance: Generous PTO, company holidays, and an earned hybrid option designed to protect your work-life balance and mental health.
  • Real Support: A dedicated paralegal and support staff assigned to your cases so you can focus entirely on managing your clients' journeys.

We've spent over a decade building a reputation for excellence and client care in Texas. Here, your skills are respected, your professional growth is supported, and your mission is clear: providing elite legal representation and building families without the burnout of business development.
Equal Opportunity Statement: We recognize that diverse experiences, perspectives and backgrounds enable us to be an even stronger company and workplace. Not only will you be welcome here, your unique thoughts and opinions will be encouraged, celebrated and deeply valued.
