The Opportunity:

As the Lead Financial Research Administrator within Sponsored Program Services (SPS), the primary function of your position is to perform professional duties in the field of grant and contract accounting in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), ensuring expenses are allowable, allocable, reasonable and consistent. You will serve as lead by regularly assigning, instructing and checking the work of assigned Fiscal Analyst 1 and Fiscal Analyst 2 positions who are responsible for monitoring, reconciling, billing and reporting requirements for federal, state and local agencies. You will perform accounting duties related to the administration and post-award financial reporting of sponsored projects, prepare financial reports analyzing, interpreting and summarizing data in accordance with the specific agency's terms and conditions and will be responsible for requesting funds from various agency systems per agreement terms.

Sponsored Program Services(SPS) serves Washington State University (WSU) system-wide including the Pullman, Everett, Spokane, Tri-Cities, and Vancouver campuses. This position is currently eligible for remote work; the work schedule is required to overlap normal SPS office hours Monday-Friday between 8:00am - 5:00pm Pacific Time.

Additional Information:

This is a full time (100% FTE), permanent position. Overtime eligibility will be determined based on final salary placement.
Monthly Salary: $5,240 to $7,044 | Range 55 (Steps A-M) | Successful candidates are typically hired at the beginning of the salary range and receive scheduled salary increment increases in accordance with WAC 357-28.
In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate's current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.

Required Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree, which includes 18 quarter or 12 semester hours in accounting, auditing, or budgeting and two (2) years of relevant professional experience, or equivalent education/experience.

  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency level with Microsoft software programs such as Outlook, Excel, Access, Word and PowerPoint to create spreadsheets, graphs, charts and reports, prepare presentations, conduct data analysis and manage information efficiently.

  • Experience analyzing complex financial data.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with the enterprise resource planning system Workday.

  • Knowledge of or experience with OFM accounting regulations (i.e. Uniform Guidance).

  • Knowledge of or experience with the WSU Chapter 40 UPPM and Chapter 30 UPPM.

  • Possess advanced computer skills, specifically working in a Microsoft Windows environment with an emphasis on Excel.

  • Possess the ability to communicate technical accounting language and terms in a user-friendly format.

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting.

  • Experience with research grants and contracts.

  • Experience auditing and reconciling complex financial data.

  • Experience leading the work of others.
