Job description


JOB DESCRIPTION Job Summary
Provides subject matter expert level consultant expertise for actuarial function activities including extracting, analyzing, and synthesizing data from various sources to identify risks. Estimates liabilities, establishes premium rates, and supports financial analysis and reporting.
Essential Job Duties
• Performs incurred but not reported (IBNR) estimates and rate adequacy studies, and documents assumptions.
• Oversees the creation of actuarial opinions, rate issue letters, and other related state reporting requirements.
• Designs and performs actuarial studies related to medical care costs and trends.
• Supports ad-hoc projects related to rate filings, new business development, financial projections, budgeting, and acquisitions.
• Reviews reporting prepared by others to assure consistency and appropriateness of methodologies used.
• Interprets results and recommends solutions to identified issues.
• Stays abreast of actuarial professional developments and industry trends.
Required Qualifications
• At least 5 years of actuarial experience, or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
• At least 4 passing Society of Actuaries (SOA) exams.
• Bachelor's degree in actuarial, mathematics, statistics, economics or related field.
• Advanced understanding of statistics/predictive analytics.
• Demonstrated problem-solving skills.
• Strong critical-thinking and attention to detail.
• Strong time-management skills, and ability to manage simultaneous projects and tasks to meet internal deadlines.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office suite products, including key skills in Excel (VLOOKUPs and pivot tables), and applicable software program(s) proficiency.
Preferred Qualifications
• Associate of the Society of Actuaries (ASA).
