Job description

About the role

We are looking for a Senior Full Stack Software Engineer to join our Patching team, the team responsible for how NinjaOne discovers, packages, and deploys OS and third-party software patches across every endpoint we manage. This role is primarily backend-focused Java/Kotlin, with working proficiency in React for the front-end pieces of the patching experience. You'll work closely with the AI workflow, server, and platform teams, as well as product designers and product owners, to extend NinjaOne's patch management capabilities at scale.

Location — We are flexible on remote working from home, if you are located in the USA and reside in one of the following states: CA, CO, CT, FL, GA, *IL, KS, ME, MA, NJ, NC, NY, OR, TN, TX, VA, and WA. We have physical offices in Austin, TX and Tampa, FL, if you prefer a hybrid option.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Extend, and maintain patch and software definitions across supported OS platforms and third-party applications.
  • Java and Kotlin backend development to expose patch management platform functions for extensibility.
  • Build and maintain React-based UI components for the patching workflows and dashboards customers rely on.
  • Collaborate with the AI workflow, server, and platform teams to achieve the Patching team's mission of reliable, scalable patch delivery.
  • Participate in architecture and design reviews to build high-quality, scalable, API-first software that can reliably patch endpoints at scale.
  • Troubleshoot production issues across the technical stack using logs, metrics, and traces — including patch deployment failures and edge cases across diverse endpoint environments.
  • Participate in code reviews, document processes thoroughly, and lead cross-team initiatives.
  • Other duties as needed.

About You

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or equivalent work experience.
  • 10+ years of experience in Java software development for product applications, or equivalent, with solid expertise in Kotlin. Python experience is a plus but not required.
  • 2+ years of experience with React for front-end development; comfort building UI components is expected, but this is not a design-system-owner role.
  • 4+ years of experience working with highly scalable software systems.
  • Experience leveraging AI tooling to accelerate software development.
  • Working knowledge of a breadth of OOP design principles; expertise in scaling data structures and object-oriented design.
  • Knowledge of API best practices and REST service development using frameworks like Jersey or Spring.
  • Relational database design and development experience.
  • Experience with both client- and server-side development for responsive messaging.
  • Caching systems expertise
  • Expert knowledge of quality testing practices, including front-end testing frameworks.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
