A Remote A&R (Artists and Repertoire) job involves discovering new musical talent, evaluating demos, and helping develop artists—entirely from a remote location. As a Remote A&R, your primary responsibilities include identifying and evaluating emerging musical talent, nurturing artist relationships, and collaborating with producers and label teams—all while working from a remote location. One common challenge is building strong connections and trust with artists and colleagues without in-person meetings, requiring excellent digital communication skills. You’ll often review music submissions, conduct virtual scouting on social platforms, and participate in online meetings to pitch and discuss new talent. Adaptability and self-motivation are important, as you manage your own schedule and proactively seek out potential artists in a highly competitive and fast-paced industry.
To thrive as a Remote A&R (Artists and Repertoire), you need a strong ear for talent, deep knowledge of music trends, and experience with artist development, often supported by a background in music business or related fields. Familiarity with digital audio workstations (DAWs), music analytics platforms, and CRM systems is essential, along with an understanding of online scouting tools. Outstanding communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills are key for networking and guiding artists remotely.
