What is a Remote 8 Hour RN?

A Remote 8 Hour RN is a Registered Nurse who works from a location outside of a traditional healthcare facility, such as their home, for an 8-hour shift. These nurses typically provide care and support via telephone, video calls, or online platforms, handling responsibilities like triage, patient education, case management, and care coordination. Remote RNs play a crucial role in telehealth services, helping patients access care and information without visiting a clinic in person. Their work promotes efficiency, accessibility, and continuity of care for patients across various locations.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote 8 Hour RN?

To thrive as a Remote 8 Hour RN, you need an active RN license, strong clinical assessment abilities, and experience in patient care management. Familiarity with telehealth platforms, electronic health records (EHRs), and secure communication systems is typically required. Excellent time management, communication skills, and the ability to work independently are crucial for remote nursing roles. These skills ensure safe, effective patient care and seamless collaboration within virtual healthcare teams.

What are some common challenges faced by Remote 8 Hour RNs, and how can they be addressed?

Remote 8 Hour Registered Nurses (RNs) often encounter challenges such as communication barriers with patients and colleagues, limited access to on-site resources, and managing work-life boundaries while working from home. To address these, it's important to leverage secure digital communication platforms, maintain regular check-ins with multidisciplinary teams, and set clear start and end times for your shifts. Many organizations also provide virtual support resources and ongoing training to help remote RNs stay connected and effective in their roles.

Job description

TENNESSEE REMOTE PSYCHIATRIC-MENTAL HEALTH NURSE PRACTITIONER (PMHNP)
Initiating Visit & Supervising Practitioner : Principal Illness Navigation, Peer Support (PIN-PS)
Independent Contractor (1099) | Telehealth/ Remote position | You Are Accountable
ABOUT THE ROLE
You Are Accountable operates behavioral health programs built around Principal Illness Navigation - Peer Support (PIN-PS), a Medicare care-navigation benefit in which certified peer support specialists walk alongside patients living with serious behavioral health conditions. Every patient's navigation episode must begin with a qualifying initiating visit furnished by a billing practitioner, and the ongoing peer navigation is billed incident to that practitioner's services under general supervision. That practitioner is you.
This is a flexible, telehealth-based contractor role with meaningful clinical leverage: you conduct the psychiatric evaluation that opens each patient's episode, set the plan of care the peer team supports, and remain available as the supervising clinician while peer specialists deliver month-to-month navigation. You control your own schedule, and compensation scales directly with the work you personally perform.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
  • Conduct initiating visits (e.g., psychiatric diagnostic evaluations, CPT 90791, or E/M visits) via telehealth for patients entering PIN-PS programs, establishing the diagnosis, medical necessity, and plan of care the navigation services will support.
  • Document each visit in our EHR within 48 hours to clean, billable standards, including patient consent to navigation services where required.
  • Serve as the billing practitioner of record for enrolled patients and provide general supervision of the certified peer support specialists furnishing navigation incident to your services.
  • Furnish follow-up visits for your enrolled patients where clinically indicated and mutually agreed.
  • Cooperate with quality, audit, and payer-compliance activities relating to your patients.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
  • Active, unrestricted APRN/NP licensure in one or more of: Texas, Florida, North Carolina, Tennessee, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, or New York (multi-state licensure a plus). State credential titles vary (APRN, CRNP, APN, NP) - all are welcome.
  • National board certification as a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC).
  • Any physician collaboration, supervision, or protocol arrangement required by your state (e.g., prescriptive authority agreement in TX; collaborative agreement in PA; joint protocol in NJ; practice agreement or NP Modernization Act qualification in NY; supervisory protocol in FL) - we can discuss support here. We also have physicians that we work with that can provide this.
  • Active NPI; eligibility to enroll with and reassign benefits to our professional entities for Medicare and Medicaid; never excluded from any federal or state health care program.
  • Comfort with telehealth care for adults with serious behavioral health conditions, and an appreciation for peer support as part of the care team.

COMPENSATION
  • Professional services: 80% of net collections for each service you personally furnish, paid within 30 days after the month we receive payment from the funding source, with full per-service reporting.
  • Supervision stipend: $5.00 per supervised patient per month for each month billable navigation services are furnished to that patient under your supervision.
  • Malpractice coverage: professional liability coverage for your services under this engagement provided at our expense ($1M per claim / $3M aggregate).

ENGAGEMENT DETAILS
1099 independent contractor; you keep full independent clinical judgment and set your own schedule around agreed availability. The role is non-exclusive - most of our practitioners maintain other practices. Because each patient's navigation episode depends on continuity with their billing practitioner, the agreement includes a 12-month notice period for termination without cause, which ends early automatically once your enrolled patients have been transitioned to a successor practitioner with continuity of care maintained; after giving notice you are never obligated to take on new patients.
You Are Accountable is an equal opportunity organization. All engagements are subject to credentialing, exclusion screening, and payer enrollment.
