Maintenance Utility - 12 hour night shift

7:00 pm - 7:00 am on 2-2-3 rotation

Job Description:

The Maintenance Utility role is a versatile role responsible for ensuring physical facilities (buildings and the areas surrounding them) and utility systems (water, gas, electrical, HVAC) remain clean, safe, well-lit, and fully operational. This role handles both routine preventative maintenance and immediate facility repairs


We are hiring for 12 hour night shift.  Hours 7pm - 7am

Skills Sets

  • Basic maintenance and preventative maintenance tasks on; plant equipment, machines, plant support systems, and buildings including:
    • Cleaning, painting, lubrication, fluid and filter changes.
    • Basic plumbing, basic carpentry.
    • Repair shop floors and stairs, roof leaks, installs racking units and guards.
    • Load and unload trucks, assist in equipment relocation and installation.
    • Change HID, fluorescent, incandescent light bulbs, ballast and fixtures.
    • Cleaning sumps, catch basins, roof drains, sewer and drain lines.
    • Winter maintenance includes snow plowing and apply anti-skid material.
    • Order parts, materials, and chemicals as needed.
  • Plan and prioritize equipment repairs. Responsible for project management of equipment installations and relocations to meet established due dates.
  • Operate material handling .
  • Assist maintenance repair persons in their daily functions.
  • Perform daily service (lube, fluids balance) to plant equipment.
  • Complete miscellaneous repairs to machines and systems at the direction of higher-level authority.
  • Prepare hazardous and nonhazardous wastes for storage and shipment.
  • Do limited assembly of equipment and furniture.
  • Transfer materials for production support to and from on-site warehouse.
  • Responsible for shop safety and housekeeping of the facility.
  • Perform packaging and shipping preparation.
  • Act as an Emergency Responder within the facility.
  • Commitment to promoting and maintaining a safe work environment for themselves and all those that could be affected.
  • Understand all safety procedures; follow plant processes and procedures; make own judgments; plan; coordinate and direct own work while multi-tasking, and prioritizing efforts all while continuously improving daily.
  • Gather and analyze information from manuals, technical support, and personal knowledge to complete tasks where no documentation may exist, direction is not clearly defined, and the desired result is conceptual in nature.  In the case of equipment failures utilize learned skills, and critical reasoning to develop options and solve moderate to complex problems to determining probable causes and taking corrective actions with limited supervision.
  • Communicate safety, work issues and progress with supervisor, team members and across shifts.
  • General:   This is a manual labor job involving carrying, lifting, climbing, using ladders and a man-lift, as well as working from heights. The position includes cleaning and the exposure to dirt, fluids, lubricants, chemicals, and involves working inside of the plant as well as outside of the plant in all types of weather conditions.

Job Requirements

  • 1-3 years of experience
  • Ability to remain upright for long periods and to move through out buildings and their grounds
  • Basic knowledge of carpentry, plumbing, HVAC, landscaping and mechanics
  • Ability to move and operate equipment and tools commonly used for maintenance
  • Familiarity with how to safely use and store equipment and potentially hazardous or flammable materials
  • Oral and reading comprehension skills to understand verbal instructions and work orders
  • Ability to read, understand and follow the information in material safety data sheets, equipment repair manuals, blueprints
  • Ability to select fasteners and wood materials to construct wooden platforms and shipping boxes without the aid of prints
  • Arithmetic and measuring skills to prepare and utilize materials needed for maintenance and repairs
  • Ability to be licensed for operation of industrial lift truck power equipment.
  • Must be able to assemble correct personal protective equipment specified on the MSDS when required to clean up spills of flammable, combustible, corrosive or toxic materials
  • Must be able to read site gages and perform pH and concentration checks on equipment fluids and to use hand tools.  Able to understand, lock out tag out, shop/repair manual, millwright functions, plumbing and pipe fitting and pneumatics and hydraulic systems.
  • Computer skills to utilize electronic work order software, email, spreadsheets and other required programs
  • Multitasking skills to work on multiple projects at once, as needed

Preferred Areas of Education

  • HS Diploma or GED Required
  • State or local certification or licensure as Electrician, Plumber or HVAC technician, preferred. 

Work Environment: Environment with controlled temperatures and dust collection systems.  Safety glasses with side-shields required. Safety shoes required. Cut resistant gloves when necessary.

Physical Demands: Approximately 12 hours standing/ walking with two break opportunities per eight-hour work period. Frequent reaching, climbing, and bending. Lifting up to thirty-three (33) pounds.

Problem Solving: Gather and analyze information, utilize learned skills, and critical reasoning to develop options and solve moderate to complex problems.
