How much do reliability jobs pay per year?

As of Jun 23, 2026, the average yearly pay for reliability in Reno, NV is $117,143.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $94,200.00 and $139,600.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

Will AI replace SRE jobs?

AI is expected to augment Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) roles by automating routine tasks such as monitoring, incident response, and data analysis. However, SREs will continue to be essential for designing, managing, and improving complex systems that require human judgment and expertise. The role is likely to evolve rather than be fully replaced by AI tools.

What is an SRE salary?

An SRE (Site Reliability Engineer) salary varies based on experience, location, and company size, but typically ranges from $100,000 to $150,000 annually in the United States. Senior SREs with specialized skills in automation, cloud platforms, and monitoring tools can earn higher compensation, often exceeding $180,000. Many roles also include benefits such as bonuses, stock options, and professional development opportunities.

What engineers make $500,000?

Senior engineers in specialized fields such as petroleum, aerospace, or software engineering with extensive experience and advanced skills can earn $500,000 or more annually. High compensation often involves leadership roles, bonuses, stock options, or working in high-demand industries requiring advanced certifications and expertise.

What is the difference between Reliability vs Maintenance Technician?

AspectReliabilityMaintenance Technician
Required credentialsCertifications in reliability engineering, asset management, or predictive maintenanceTechnical diploma or certification in maintenance, HVAC, or mechanical systems
Work environmentFocus on analyzing data, improving systems, and preventing failures in industrial or manufacturing settingsHands-on repair, troubleshooting, and maintenance of equipment and machinery
Employer and industry usageUsed in manufacturing, energy, and industrial sectors to optimize equipment performanceCommonly employed in factories, plants, and facilities for equipment upkeep

Reliability professionals focus on analyzing data and implementing strategies to prevent equipment failures, while maintenance technicians perform hands-on repairs and routine maintenance. Both roles are essential for operational efficiency but differ in their focus and approach.

What jobs make 10,000 a month without a degree?

In reliability-related fields, high-paying roles such as industrial maintenance managers, senior technicians, or specialized engineers can earn $10,000 or more monthly, often requiring extensive experience, technical skills, and certifications rather than a formal degree. These positions typically involve overseeing systems, troubleshooting, and ensuring operational safety in manufacturing, energy, or infrastructure sectors.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals in Reliability Engineering roles, and how can they be addressed?

Reliability Engineers often face the challenge of balancing immediate production demands with long-term equipment health and system improvements. They must analyze complex failure data, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and drive changes that may require operational adjustments. To address these challenges, it's important to develop strong communication skills, stay current with reliability methodologies (like FMEA and RCA), and foster a culture of proactive maintenance. Building relationships with operations and maintenance teams also helps ensure that reliability recommendations are adopted and sustained.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Reliability Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Reliability Engineer, you need a solid background in engineering principles, data analysis, and failure mode analysis, typically supported by a degree in engineering or a related field. Familiarity with tools like FMEA, Root Cause Analysis (RCA), reliability modeling software, and relevant certifications such as Certified Reliability Engineer (CRE) are commonly required. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective communication help Reliability Engineers collaborate and proactively address system weaknesses. These skills are essential for minimizing downtime, optimizing maintenance strategies, and ensuring long-term operational efficiency.

What does a Reliability Engineer do?

A Reliability Engineer focuses on ensuring that systems, equipment, and processes operate dependably and efficiently over time. Their main responsibilities include analyzing failure data, identifying potential risks, and developing strategies to minimize downtime and maintenance costs. They work closely with design, maintenance, and production teams to improve product quality, safety, and reliability. By implementing reliability testing and preventive maintenance plans, they help organizations achieve higher performance and customer satisfaction.

Job description

Role Summary
In this role, you willย driveย end-to-end reliability for ourย Solid-Stateย Transformerย (SST)ย platform, fromย conceptย toย fieldย deployment. You will lead cross-functional teams to mitigate program risks viaย Failure Mode and Effects Analysisย (DFMEA)/Fault Tree analysis (FTA)ย and set clear reliability benchmarks for supplier selection. Byย developingย advancedย Physics-of-failureย (PoF)ย modelingย and performing expert-level RCA, you will ensure our hardware meets the demandingย lifetimeย required for modern energy infrastructure.ย

Responsibilities:ย

  • Assist in the setup and execution of reliability test plans for SST's, including thermal mapping and accelerated life testing.ย
  • Utilize statistical methods to analyze test data, identifying trends in component or system-level failures.ย
  • Participate in DFMEA sessions, helping to document risks and track mitigation actions.ย
  • Perform initial root-cause analysis on failed components using lab equipment (microscopes, X-ray, etc.) and coordinate with senior engineers on complex investigations.ย
  • Assist in building reliability block diagrams and basicย PoFย models to predict product lifetime.ย
  • Work closely with the Design and Manufacturing teams to communicate test results and ensure reliability targets are met.ย
  • Maintain detailed records of test procedures, lab results, and reliability reports for key milestones.ย
  • Ability to travel occasionally to different facilities to support hardware deployment and testing.ย

Qualifications:ย

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Reliability Engineering.ย
  • Strong understanding of power electronics fundamentals and circuit analysis.ย
  • Basic familiarity with reliability statistics (Weibull distribution, MTBF) and a desire to master advanced Bayesian and Monte Carlo methods.ย
  • Comfortable working in a high-voltage lab environment; experience with basic diagnostic tools (Oscilloscopes, Multimeters).ย
  • Interest in learning reliability tools such as ReliaSoft (Weibull++, ALTA) or simulation software like Ansys Sherlock.ย
  • Basic proficiency in Python, MATLAB, or R for data processing and automation.ย
  • Excellent written and verbal skills; ability to translate complex data into clear, actionable updates for the team.ย
  • A "first principles" thinker who is eager to learn and thrives in a fast-paced hardware startup environment.ย

Please note:This role requires working on-site 5 days a week. We do not offer hybrid or remote options.ย
