Reliability Engineer Cre information

What is the reliability in research?

In research, reliability refers to the consistency and stability of a measurement or test over time. For a Reliability Engineer, understanding reliability involves analyzing how systems or components perform under specified conditions to ensure they function without failure, often using statistical tools and testing methods. High reliability indicates that a product or system consistently meets performance standards across different tests and time periods.

What are Reliability Engineers?

Reliability Engineers are professionals who focus on ensuring that systems, equipment, and processes perform reliably and efficiently over their expected lifespan. They analyze failure data, develop maintenance strategies, and implement improvements to enhance system availability and minimize downtime. In various industries, such as manufacturing, energy, or technology, Reliability Engineers play a key role in optimizing performance and reducing costs associated with unexpected failures.

What's a better word for reliability?

For a Reliability Engineer, a better word for reliability is dependability or consistency, which emphasize the ability of systems or components to perform their functions without failure over time. These terms are often used in maintenance, testing, and quality assurance to describe system performance and durability. Strong knowledge of tools like FMEA and root cause analysis supports improving these qualities.

What does reliability mean?

For a Reliability Engineer, reliability refers to the ability of systems, equipment, or components to perform their intended functions consistently over time without failure. It involves analyzing failure modes, implementing preventive maintenance, and using tools like FMEA and root cause analysis to improve system dependability and ensure operational efficiency.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Reliability Engineer CRE, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Reliability Engineer CRE, you need a solid background in engineering principles, reliability analysis, and often a Certified Reliability Engineer (CRE) credential from ASQ. Familiarity with tools like FMEA, Root Cause Analysis, reliability modeling software, and statistical analysis systems is essential. Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and effective communication skills help in collaborating with teams and presenting findings. These skills ensure the development and maintenance of reliable systems, minimizing downtime and optimizing operational efficiency.

What does it mean if someone is a reliability?

A Reliability Engineer is responsible for ensuring that systems, equipment, or processes perform consistently and dependably over time. They analyze failure data, develop maintenance strategies, and use tools like FMEA or root cause analysis to improve system reliability and reduce downtime.

What is the difference between Reliability Engineer Cre vs Reliability Engineer?

AspectReliability Engineer CreReliability Engineer
CertificationsASQ CRE, Six Sigma, Reliability certificationsSimilar certifications, often including ASQ CRE or Six Sigma
Work EnvironmentManufacturing, industrial plants, energy sectorsManufacturing, industrial, aerospace, energy sectors
Employer UsageUsed by companies focusing on reliability and maintenanceUsed broadly across industries for system and equipment reliability

Reliability Engineer Cre and Reliability Engineer roles share similar credentials and work environments, often overlapping in manufacturing and industrial sectors. The main difference lies in the Cre certification focus, emphasizing reliability and maintenance strategies. Both roles aim to improve system performance and reduce downtime, making them highly comparable in industry applications.

How does a Reliability Engineer CRE typically collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve system performance?

Reliability Engineers CRE frequently work alongside design, maintenance, operations, and quality teams to identify failure patterns and implement corrective actions. They lead root cause analyses and facilitate reliability-centered maintenance (RCM) workshops, ensuring that data-driven insights guide decision-making. Effective collaboration helps align reliability goals with overall business objectives, leading to more robust processes and reduced downtime. Being proactive in communication and documentation is key to successfully driving improvements across departments.

Job description

Shape the Future with Us. At Lubrizol, we’re transforming the specialty chemicals market through science, sustainability, and a culture of inclusion. As part of our global team, you’ll be empowered to make a real impact—on your career, your community, and the world around you.

Job Type: Full-time / On-site

Shift + Hours: 1st Shift

How You’ll Make an Impact

As a Reliability Engineer, you'll be at the forefront of our innovation, driving specialty chemical solutions forward. You'll collaborate with a diverse group of passionate individuals to deliver sustainable solutions to advance mobility, improve wellbeing, and enhance modern life.

The purpose of this position is to implement a multi-year Reliability Improvement Plan, Equipment Maintenance Strategies and Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) program through application of reliability technology and tools.

In this role, you will:

  • Conducts Criticality Screening and Risk Analysis to identify critical equipment and Balance of Plant (BOP) equipment.
  • Champions and implements Asset Strategies in alignment with equipment criticality and business needs.
  • Support development and execution of the 3-year Reliability Improvement Plan, including Asset Availability performance history and improvement goals related to Equipment Reliability.
  • Selects the appropriate Risk Management Strategy or Alternative Failure Management Strategy and develops / implements Equipment Maintenance Strategies (EMS’s) for each piece of critical equipment and generic EMSs for BOP equipment.
  • Support PPM Coordinator for reviews of existing plans for effectiveness and applicability based on the Risk Management Strategy, Alternative Failure Management Strategy, vendor information, RCM tools, historical equipment reliability issues, results of PPM, etc. Adds, deletes, and/or modifies existing PPM to eliminate low value PPM on BOP equipment and effectively manage risk on critical equipment. Note: Include PPM services as required on parts and spare equipment to ensure warehoused part / equipment quality is maintained during storage (e.g. shaft rotation, motor heater check).
  • Evaluates / implements available Equipment Condition Monitoring techniques and new technology to improve productivity, effectiveness, and value of equipment condition monitoring program.
  • Supports PPM Coordinator to ensure that documentation of findings of PPM and Corrective Maintenance activities are properly documented in CMMS so that evaluations can be done.
  • Routinely monitors Asset Reliability, maintenance data, PPM results, significant reliability events, RCA findings, maintenance histories, and production loss data.
  • Analyzes production loss accounting data and cost data to develop and prioritize a list of reliability opportunities.
  • Facilitates Root Cause Analysis and RCM studies, utilizing reliability engineering tools such as Weibull and FMEA, for events that meet the incident triggers. Implements effective corrective actions / improvements.
  • Performs value engineering activities for projects, design, Reliability / Maintenance input, PMs, BOMs, equipment selection, criticality, etc.
  • Ensure new equipment is integrated into appropriate systems, tools, processes, strategies, etc. prior to being put into Service.
  • Performs periodic gap assessments between the Asset Reliability Plan, Equipment Maintenance Strategies and PPM plans to identify gaps vs. current reliability performance, cost and asset availability. Identifies and implements corrective actions / improvements to eliminate low value PPM (e.g. extend intervals between PPM) or other work while effectively managing risk in terms of mechanical integrity, EHS, production, maintenance cost, etc.
  • Implements periodic plant equipment / facility audits to proactively monitor plant condition and prevent unplanned deterioration of assets.
  • Supports PPM Coordinator to optimize spare parts / equipment inventory.
  • Champions use of Management of Change process for changes, modifications, deletions to equipment, materials, parts, consumables and related Operating Discipline.

Required Qualifications that Enable Your Success
