Job Description

The Director, Site Reliability Engineering plays a critical role in ensuring the continuous and reliable operation of SmartRent services at the property level. This role drives system reliability, oversees property health, and partners closely with Engineering and Support teams to develop scalable processes and observability tools that sustain operational performance and deliver consistent client value.

Responsibilities

  • Own property-level system reliability outcomes, including oversight of device-only networks and overall property health performance. 
  • Drive adoption and effective utilization of SmartRent tools and services across properties through monitoring, insights, and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Establish proactive detection and response frameworks to identify localized system issues and lead coordinated cross-functional resolution efforts. 
  • Provide leadership oversight of property transfers and escalated issues, ensuring consistent resolution standards and service continuity. 
  • Partner with Engineering leadership to design and implement observability tools and processes that enable scalable monitoring of system health and events.
  • Define, document, and enforce standardized operational processes to ensure consistency, accountability, and cross-functional alignment. 
  • Collaborate with Support leadership to develop dashboards and reporting capabilities that deliver actionable insights into property engagement, activity, and performance trends. 
  • Lead the strategic oversight of IoT support operations, including installation support workflows and escalation management frameworks. 
  • Oversee validation and controlled deployment of IoT firmware updates across hubs and connected devices to ensure reliability and minimize operational risk.
  • Establish and maintain data integrity standards at the property level while contributing domain expertise to enterprise knowledge resources and training materials.

Required Qualifications

  • 3+ years of people management experience
  • Demonstrated experience in network operations, including both wired and wireless environments. 
  • Experience utilizing observability and monitoring tools (e.g., Datadog, Observe, or similar platforms). 
  • Strong troubleshooting expertise, including developing and maintaining runbooks and technical documentation. 
  • Foundational programming, scripting, and automation skills; ability to leverage automation to improve operational efficiency is required. 
  • Working knowledge of cloud-based infrastructure, such as AWS or comparable platforms. 
  • Significant operational experience with a proven ability to design, implement, and sustain clear, scalable processes that teams consistently follow.
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration skills, with experience working across internal teams to resolve complex operational issues and achieve shared goals.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated business acumen, including the ability to connect reliability and operational efforts to measurable business and customer value.
  • Experience translating technical reliability outcomes into clear customer-facing or executive-level value narratives.
