Job description

Overview

We are seeking a full-time Public Relations Specialist 2 at Garmin's U.S. headquarters in the Greater Kansas City area. In this role, you will be responsible for focusing on increasing awareness of Garmin’s products by facilitating the best possible editorial coverage in mainstream, endemic and trade outlets, including digital, print and broadcast media.

Essential Functions
  • Responsible for communicating with journalists and other members of the media to drive awareness of Garmin’s products by demonstrating their unique advantages of compelling design, superior quality and best value
  • Maintains/grows relationships with media contacts and other product reviewers, podcasters and YouTube influencers throughout the respective industries Garmin serves
  • Develops and writes engaging PR pitches to generate positive coverage for Garmin products/features
  • Facilitates review/demo units and provides product demonstrations and overviews (virtual or otherwise)
  • Supports PR strategies and programs that are aligned with the business’ goals, including PR plans, product pitches press releases, award applications and company statements and quotes
  • Utilizes media database and monitoring tools to identify new contacts, publications and story opportunities
  • Communicates PR plans to Garmin’s global offices and teams in other countries
  • Attends and represents Garmin at industry tradeshows and PR events
  • Plans and executes media events surrounding new product introductions, tradeshow activities and other special events
  • Demonstrates a deep understanding of Garmin’s product line and the competitive landscape
  • Collaborates with Garmin’s Content Marketing and Corporate Communications team to develop compelling stories that keep Garmin in the news
  • Works productively on deadlines and can respond quickly to time-sensitive media requests
  • Assists with other PR needs as necessary, including monitoring the Media Relations inbox
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Public Relations, Marketing, Communications, Journalism, English, or related field
  • Must possess a minimum of 2 years of public relations, marketing experience or equivalent work experience
  • Demonstrates a working knowledge of Garmin products and the market(s) served
  • Demonstrates excellent verbal and presentation skills
  • Displays compelling writing skills and knowledge of Associated Press style guidelines
  • Exhibits outstanding professionalism, judgment, and integrity
  • Willingness to travel to trade shows and media events
  • Must be a highly organized self-starter able to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines with minimized supervision
