CyrusOne is seeking a Director, Tax to join our team! The Director, Tax reports directly to the VP, Tax, and is responsible for overseeing all Corporate and Partnership Tax compliance including direct responsibility for the quality, accuracy and timeliness of tax filings. The Director, Tax will oversee the domestic and foreign income and sales tax team, and will be responsible for the review of federal, international, state/local income tax corporate and partnership planning and compliance, property tax and unclaimed property administration, budget preparation, federal and state examination administration and resolution, and transfer pricing studies.
Responsibilities:
  • Review federal and state tax returns to ensure accuracy and compliance prior to filing.
  • Oversee and review quarterly and annual REIT testing to confirm regulatory compliance.
  • Manage additional REIT-related activities, including PSQs, dividend characterization, and prohibited transaction analyses.
  • Maintain ongoing collaboration with external tax advisors to stay informed of new developments and implement relevant strategies when appropriate.
  • Lead and manage federal, state, and other tax audits, advising management on the company's positions, risks, and potential exposures.
  • Interpret and communicate the company's corporate legal structure, particularly as it relates to acquisitions and tax or business transactions.
  • Conduct tax research and due diligence, including basis and gain calculations related to acquisitions, easements, and divestitures.
  • Oversee the preparation and management of tax estimates, payments, and accruals.
  • Apply strong knowledge of ASC 740 and/or IAS 12 in tax accounting and reporting processes.
  • Coordinate foreign corporate income tax (CIT) filings, track NOL carryforwards and foreign tax payments, and collaborate with the VP of Tax to develop tax minimization strategies.
  • Review and monitor VAT and other indirect tax filings as required.
  • Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual tax provision process, ensuring accurate and timely return-to-provision reconciliations.
  • Monitor and maintain SOX-compliant internal controls related to tax reporting and compliance and respond to related external auditor inquiries.
  • Represent the tax function in discussions with external auditors, advisors, and regulatory authorities as needed.
  • Assist in evaluating and communicating tax incentive programs and potential legislative opportunities relevant to the business.
  • Provide support on ad-hoc tax inquiries and various non-income tax analyses and filings as needed.
  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements:
  • Minimum 10 years of relevant experience, preferably including time with a major public accounting firm followed by demonstrated success working with one or more REITs.
  • Proven knowledge and hands-on experience in federal, international, state, and local tax matters; international tax experience is highly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of real estate and REIT tax regulations, compliance requirements, and related issues.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact with management, accounting, finance, other internal departments, and external federal and state tax authorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to research and analyze complex tax issues.
  • Experience working with and negotiating with IRS agents and state tax auditors.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Willingness to travel as needed

Education/Certifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Masters Degree in Tax or MBA
  • CPA is a plus
