What is a regional security officer?

A Regional Security Officer (RSO) is responsible for overseeing and managing security operations within a specific geographic area or region. Their primary duties include assessing risks, developing security plans, coordinating with local law enforcement, and ensuring the safety of people, assets, and information. RSOs often work for government agencies, multinational corporations, or international organizations, and may also provide training and guidance on security protocols. Their role is critical in preventing and responding to security threats such as terrorism, espionage, or civil unrest.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a regional security manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Regional Security Manager, you need expertise in risk assessment, security operations, and crisis management, often supported by a degree in criminal justice or security management and relevant experience. Familiarity with security management systems, incident reporting platforms, and certifications like CPP (Certified Protection Professional) are commonly required. Strong leadership, analytical thinking, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for coordinating teams and liaising with stakeholders. These competencies ensure the protection of assets, personnel, and operations across multiple locations in a dynamic threat environment.

How does a regional security professional typically collaborate with other departments within an organization?

  • Implement and continuously improve Marvell's EHS programs and compliance training across office, laboratory, facilities infrastructure environments, and capital projects, supplementing with country-level, state, regional, or local procedures where required.
  • Support development and maintenance of emergency preparedness and response programs across regional sites, coordinating with site teams and local emergency services as needed.
  • Investigate incidents and near misses through root-cause analysis, develop corrective action plans, and partner with HR and relevant internal stakeholders on health and safety cases as needed.
  • Foster a culture of safety and environmental responsibility through training, communication, and employee engagement across regional sites.
  • Advance Marvell's operational sustainability initiatives related to operational greenhouse gas emissions, energy, and waste reduction, including ongoing tracking and compilation of environmental data for sites within the region.
  • Monitor and regularly report on EHS performance against established Key Performance Indicators, objectives, and external reporting commitments.

The ideal candidate brings strong technical knowledge, practical problem-solving skills, and experience managing EHS programs across multiple locations within corporate, technology, or similar high-tech environments. Successful candidates will be effective communicators and relationship builders who can partner with stakeholders across the organization to promote compliance, support safe workplaces, strengthen emergency readiness, and advance sustainability initiatives.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Environmental, Health & Safety, Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Management, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of progressive EHS experience, preferably supporting corporate, technology, semiconductor, laboratory, or other high-tech environments.
  • Experience managing EHS programs across multiple sites, regions, or business locations.
  • Strong knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local EHS regulations and industry best practices.
  • Experience conducting compliance assessments, inspections, audits, incident investigations, and corrective action management.
  • Experience developing and delivering EHS training and communications across multiple sites or locations.
  • Experience supporting EHS requirements across workplace environments including offices, laboratories, and facilities infrastructure, as well as capital projects such as renovations and construction.
  • Experience supporting operational sustainability programs including greenhouse gas emissions tracking, energy and waste reduction, and environmental data management.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills with the ability to prioritize effectively, manage multiple tasks, and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across functions, influence stakeholders at multiple levels, and take initiative to drive practical solutions with a track record of communicating progress and delivering measurable outcomes.
  • Ability to travel throughout the region (approximately 25%).
  • Professional certification preferred (e.g., CSP, ASP, CHMM, CIH).
