Job Summary
ConocoPhillips is seeking a seasoned and strategic security leader to serve as Security Director within Global Security. This role provides enterprise leadership, governance, and oversight of security programs designed to protect personnel, facilities, operations, and reputation.
As a member of the Global Security Leadership Team, this position is responsible for shaping and executing risk-based security strategies aligned with enterprise priorities and supporting operations across a diverse and evolving global footprint.
As the company expands into more complex operating environments, this role will play a critical part in strengthening security capabilities in elevated-risk and high-risk regions-ensuring the safety of employees, contractors, business travelers, expatriates, and secondees while enabling safe and effective business operations.
This position is part of the enterprise succession pipeline for senior security leadership and requires the ability to operate at strategic, operational, and tactical levels.
Position Overview
Key Responsibilities:
Enterprise Leadership & Strategy

• Contribute to enterprise security strategy and priorities as a member of the Global Security Leadership Team
• Align security programs with enterprise risk thresholds, business objectives, and operational requirements
• Serve as a trusted advisor to senior leadership on security risks, mitigation strategies, and operational decisions
• Represent Global Security in senior leadership forums and act on behalf of the Chief Security Officer, as required

Portfolio Leadership & Program Execution

• Lead one or more global security portfolios, which may include:
• International security and global investigations
• Americas security and enterprise security technology
• Executive protection, GSOC, global threat, and travel security
• Oversee execution of integrated, risk-based security programs across global operations
• Drive standardization, scalability, and continuous improvement across business units and regions
• Ensure alignment with the Security Management System and enterprise governance frameworks

High-Risk Operations & Workforce Protection

• Provide leadership for security programs supporting operations in elevated-risk and high-risk environments
• Oversee security risk assessments and mitigation strategies for facilities, projects, travelers, expatriates, and remote workforces
• Support new country entry, major projects, and operations in complex geopolitical and security environments
• Advise leadership on security risk acceptance, escalation thresholds, and go/no-go decisions
• Ensure travel security, journey management, residential security, and workforce protection programs are robust and effective

Governance, Risk & Assurance

• Establish and maintain security policies, standards, and procedures
• Ensure effective execution of the Security Management System
• Oversee assurance, audit, and compliance processes
• Monitor and report security risks, trends, and mitigation effectiveness

Crisis Management & Incident Response

• Provide senior leadership during incidents, emergencies, and crisis management activations
• Support enterprise crisis management structures, including IMT and Functional Support Teams
• Coordinate protective, investigative, and intelligence support capabilities
• Drive post-incident reviews and continuous improvement

Financial & Vendor Management

• Lead budget planning, cost optimization, and resource allocation
• Oversee security vendors, contracts, and service delivery
• Ensure contracted services meet company security standards and operational requirements

Stakeholder Engagement

• Serve as a senior interface with business units and corporate functions
• Build relationships with government agencies, law enforcement, industry partners, and peer organizations
• Provide executive-level briefings on security risks and strategic implications

Basic Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Security, Risk Management, Business, International Relations, or related field
• 12 or more years of progressive experience in corporate security, military, law enforcement, intelligence, emergency management, or related discipline
• Previous experience leading global or multi-region security programs and teams
• Previous experience conducting security risk assessments and implementing mitigation strategies
• Previous experience supporting crisis management, incident response, or emergency operations
• Basic working knowledge of core security disciplines, including physical security, investigations, crisis management, executive protection, and security technology

Preferred Requirements:

• Legally authorized to work in the United States
• Master's degree in Security Management, International Affairs, Business, or related discipline
• Professional certifications such as CPP, PSP, CISSP, CISM, or equivalent
• Experience in energy, extractives, infrastructure, or other globally distributed, high-risk industries
• Demonstrated experience supporting operations, personnel, or facilities in elevated-risk or high-risk environments
• Direct experience operating in high-risk, non-permissive, or politically complex environments
• Experience supporting new country entry, major capital projects, or international operations
• Experience developing country security plans, facility security plans, and workforce protection strategies
• Experience managing travel security and duty-of-care programs
• Experience leading or supporting crisis management teams, GSOC operations, or threat intelligence programs
• Experience managing security vendors, guard forces, and international service providers
• Demonstrated ability to translate complex security risks into actionable business guidance for senior leadership
• Proven ability to advise senior leadership and influence cross-functional stakeholders
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including executive-level briefing experience

• Directors are expected to be interchangeable across portfolios over time
• Domestic and international travel may be required, including support during crisis or incident response

Director Scope Statements
Enterprise Expectation for All Directors
All Global Security Directors operate with enterprise accountability beyond their assigned portfolio. Each Director is expected to contribute to enterprise security strategy, SMS execution, leadership development, crisis response, business engagement, and CSO succession readiness. Directors may rotate across portfolios over time to strengthen continuity, resilience, and enterprise leadership capability.
Security Director - International & Global Investigations
Primary Scope
Leads security strategy, governance, and program execution across international operations, with enterprise responsibility for global investigations governance, standards, and coordination.
Core Accountability Areas

• International security program leadership and oversight.
• Security risk assessment and mitigation for international assets, operations, travelers, expatriates, secondees, and business activities.
• Business unit engagement across international regions.
• Global investigations governance, coordination, standards, and quality assurance.
• Oversight of complex, cross-border, sensitive, or enterprise-significant investigations.
• Alignment with Legal, HR, Compliance & Ethics, IT/OT Security, and business leadership.
• Integration of investigations, regional risk, and enterprise security governance.

Differentiating Focus
This role combines international operational security leadership with global functional accountability for investigations. It is especially critical for higher-risk environments where local execution, legal sensitivity, business continuity, and enterprise defensibility must be tightly coordinated.
Security Director - Americas & Enterprise Security Technology
Primary Scope
Leads security strategy, governance, and program execution across the Americas, with enterprise responsibility for security technology strategy, integration, and lifecycle management.
Core Accountability Areas

• Americas regional security program leadership and oversight.
• Security risk assessment and mitigation across North and South America operations.
• Business unit engagement and support across the Americas.
• Enterprise security technology strategy, standards, deployment, and integration.
• Oversight of access control, video management, alarm, badging, physical security systems, and related platforms.
• Alignment of regional execution with global standards, SMS requirements, and enterprise reporting.
• Support for technology-enabled detection, response, assurance, and risk management.

Differentiating Focus
This role combines direct regional security leadership with enterprise ownership of scalable security technology capabilities. It ensures security investments are risk-based, integrated, operationally useful, and globally consistent.
Security Director - Executive Protection & Global Support
Primary Scope
Leads enterprise executive protection and global support capabilities, including GSOC, global threat, travel security, protective intelligence, and real-time security decision support.
Core Accountability Areas

• Executive protection strategy, standards, planning, and operational delivery.
• Global threat program oversight, including intelligence monitoring, analysis, advisories, and leadership decision support.
• GSOC oversight, capability development, incident monitoring, alerting, and response coordination.
• Travel security, protective intelligence, high-risk travel support, and event security coordination.
• Integration of intelligence, GSOC operations, executive protection, and security response support.
• Support for crisis management, evacuation planning, and real-time operational security decisions.

This role provides enterprise-wide enabling capabilities that support senior leaders, business travelers, expatriates, secondees, and operations in dynamic risk environments. It integrates intelligence, monitoring, protective operations, and response coordination into a unified support model.
