Responsibilities/QualificationsPurchasing Manager

Drees Homes, one of the nation's largest privately-owned homebuilders, is seeking a Purchasing Manager to join our Texas Region team in Dallas, TX.

In this key leadership role, you will help drive purchasing strategy, manage trade partner relationships, oversee contract administration, and identify opportunities to improve cost efficiency across the division. We're looking for a collaborative and analytical professional who thrives on building strong partnerships, negotiating favorable agreements, and supporting operational excellence throughout the homebuilding process.

What You'll Do

  • Manage division purchasing activities including bidding, pricing, contract administration, and vendor management
  • Solicit, evaluate, and negotiate bids from subcontractors and suppliers to maintain a competitive cost position
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with trade partners while identifying and onboarding new vendors as needed
  • Prepare, administer, and maintain subcontractor and supplier contracts, ensuring all required documentation is complete and executed
  • Analyze budgets, job costs, and purchasing variances to identify opportunities for cost savings and process improvement
  • Review floor plans, bills of materials, and takeoffs to ensure accuracy and cost effectiveness
  • Coordinate bidding and costing activities for new floor plans, community start-ups, and product enhancements
  • Perform detailed cost analyses and provide recommendations to improve profitability and operational performance
  • Develop trade partner strategies and support sourcing initiatives across multiple disciplines
  • Create accurate and timely cost reports and present findings and recommendations to management
  • Partner with Construction, Operations, Design Center, and Warranty teams to support quality service and supplier performance
  • Assist with insurance, warranty, and vendor-related claims and liability matters as needed

What You Bring

  • Degree in Building Construction, Construction Management, Business, or a related field preferred
  • Residential construction experience required
  • Purchasing, procurement, or supply chain experience within the construction industry
  • Demonstrated success negotiating contracts and managing vendor relationships
  • Ability to read and interpret residential construction plans and specifications
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to evaluate costs, identify trends, and recommend solutions
  • Experience sourcing and evaluating subcontractors and suppliers
  • Proficiency with purchasing and procurement systems; J.D. Edwards experience preferred
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across departments and influence strategic decision-making
  • Strong attention to detail and follow-through
