At Core States Group, the work you do matters to the clients we serve, the communities we support, and the teams who rely on one another to deliver with excellence. Our Cause is powerful: to create a world where all environments improve everyday life.

The Senior Director of Civil Engineering - Regional Practice Leader will influence how regional businesses grow, how teams develop, how clients experience Core States, and how our reputation is strengthened across the nation.

This role is for a proven leader who wants broader impact: building stronger regional practices, deeper leadership capacity, greater market presence, and a culture of excellence across priority office markets.

This leader will build strong teams, expand client relationships, develop leaders, improve practice performance, and drive sustainable growth across Core States Group's regional businesses. The right candidate will bring an entrepreneurial mindset, strong business judgement, technical credibility, and the ability to build trust with clients, teams, and executive leadership.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and grow regional civil engineering practices across the West Region with accountability for client service, team performance, overall financial performance, quality, and sustainable growth.
  • Develop and execute regional practice strategies aligned with Core States Group’s business objectives, market opportunities, and client priorities.
  • Strengthen local brand recognition, operational density, cultural density, and regional market presence in priority office markets.
  • Identify growth opportunities within existing and emerging markets and help position Core States for long-term regional success.
  • Build, mentor, and develop high-performing regional civil engineering teams with leadership depth across offices, disciplines, and practices.
  • Create a culture of accountability, ownership, collaboration, service, and continuous improvement.
  • Strengthen client relationships by understanding client needs, anticipating challenges, and positioning Core States as a trusted advisor.

  • Sustainable practice growth and improved overall financial performance.
  • Stronger leadership depth and talent development across regional teams.
  • Stronger client relationships, increased responsiveness, and expanded repeat business.
  • Greater consistency in quality, communication, and delivery across regional civil engineering practices.

Qualifications

We are looking for a senior civil engineering leader with strong business judgement, practice leadership capability, technical credibility, and the ability to lead both growth and execution. • MBA, advanced business degree, or demonstrated business leadership experience strongly preferred.
  • Significant civil engineering leadership experience, including responsibility for client relationships, team leadership, program delivery, overall financial performance, and operational execution.
  • Demonstrated success leading national client programs, scaling delivery teams, improving operational performance, or managing complex client portfolios.
  • Strong business and financial acumen, including the ability to evaluate client growth opportunities, financial performance, staffing, resource planning, workload management, and operational priorities.
  • Strong understanding of civil engineering delivery for multi-site, national, or programmatic clients, including scope, schedule, budget, permitting, quality, and client communication.
  • Experience in civil site development, multi-site engineering, land development, infrastructure, national accounts, or related growth markets.
  • Ability to lead through influence, build trust, align teams, mentor leaders, and communicate effectively with clients, teams, and company leadership.
  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to identify practical uses for company-approved AI tools to improve team processes, support better decisions, and increase efficiency.
  • Demonstrated ability to review AI-generated content for accuracy, protect confidential information, and remain responsible for the final work product.
