Job description

The T&D SER DMod Business Line Manager will be responsible for the managerial direction, leadership, vision, development and growth of the DMod business line in the Southeast Region (SER). This position will work closely with the Business Directors, current T&D SER DMod managers, other T&D SER leadership teams and national DMod leadership team. Specific areas of responsibilities for this position include the following, with other duties assigned by senior management as needed:

This position will have primary accountability for all project management, business development, project execution, recruitment, retention, and staff development within the SER DMod Market. This position will lead their business in conjunction with key managers within their respective business line. The business line manager will be responsible for structuring and staffing their team with key management positions within the business line, which may include the:

  • Department Managers, Assistant Department Managers, and/or Section Managers - accountable for staffing/career development of all design and project-engineer-in-training resources within SER DMod and direct supervision over non-PM or PjE staff in business line.
  • Project Managers - responsible for overall execution of DMod projects within the region.
  • Technical Managers - responsible for leadership of technical team including PjE group and Technical Consultants as applicable.

The KPIs listed below will be the primary method of performance evaluation for the DMod Business Line Manager. Targets will be set annually by the Business Line Manager and solidified with T&D leadership during the T&D financial planning process.

Safety:

  • Adherence and promotion of Burns & McDonnell's safety programs, training, and policies for all DMod projects and well as the promotion and management of the Safety & Health performance of the project team members.

Business Development:

  • Providing overall oversight and direction for the business development of the SER DMod Markets. Work with the appropriate personnel on the development and administration of the SER DMod Business Plan.
  • Establishing Burns & McDonnell's position in the regional DMod Market through strategic planning and business plan development with a focus on continued growth in market share, profitable growth, and a great work environment.
  • Identification and pursuit of DMod opportunities for the SER Region, including associated Branch offices.
  • Lead the development and diversification of the SER DMod Markets, including beyond T&D-owned clients and into other Global Practices' clients through cross-selling efforts.
  • Oversee the development of strong, work-winning relationships with key DMod stakeholders at current and prospective clients.
  • Oversee the development of SER DMod work with new clients as well as the expansion of SER DMod work with existing clients.
  • Provide oversight for the pursuit process including "go/no-go" decisions, win strategies, proposal staffing, development of pricing, contract terms and conditions, and risk-reviews.
  • Ensure alignment and support of regional office proposal efforts and risk assessments.
  • Direct QC process to monitor the development of scopes of work, schedules and budgets during the pursuit process.
  • Identify, track, and update opportunities and sales interactions leveraging CRM system.

Personnel

  • Work with department managers to appropriately develop and assign work to meet or exceed DMod business plan chargeability goals.
  • Leverage the resource hub to forecast and manage all employee workload and utilization.
  • Coordinate with assigned Business Director and DMod Department/Section manager(s) to drive recruitment and development of staff needed to grow DMod.
  • Conducting performance evaluation for selected direct reports and participating in evaluations of other staff as required.
  • Recruitment and development of center of excellence leads for individual DMod Market segments.
  • Coordinate with Business Director to drive the training and development of project management, business development, and client management skillsets within the team.
  • Recruitment and development of DMod project-engineers-in-training, project-managers-in-training, project engineers, technical managers, project managers and project management section managers.
  • Management and career development of DMod project engineering and management personnels. Accountable for the development of leadership within the DMod project engineering and management groups, and for assisting with the overall leadership development within the office. Provide oversight and direction for Project Engineers and Managers to invest appropriately in their project teams' personnel to maximize employee-owner career development, satisfaction, and retention.
  • Facilitate a thriving work environment that facilitates the recruitment, development, and retainment of the market's top-talent.

Project Management:

  • Provide oversight and direction for all SER DMod projects including project management, project planning, scheduling, resource management, budgeting, and the establishment/execution of critical project objectives. Demonstrate creativity, foresight, and mature judgment in anticipating and solving problems.
  • Responsible for the profitability and financial performance of the SER DMod projects portfolio. Responsible for overseeing the identification of DMod project and portfolio risks including the administration of the associated mitigation strategies to provide for a portfolio of work that meets or exceeds set goals.
  • Identify and oversee implementation of effective change management practices on projects. Proactively work through corrective actions where deficiencies are identified.
  • Champion all SER project management initiatives and drive adherence to policies and procedures as defined by Business Director.
  • Overall identification and implementation of project management methods, procedures, tools, and technology to win new work and to execute existing work more profitably.

Collaboration:

  • Facilitate collaboration with national DMod business line leadership, branch offices, and other regional offices to coordinate business plans and assist in the pursuit of DMod opportunities.
  • Provide for the development and leveraging of a strong 'Burns and McDonnell India' team dedicated to the support of SER DMod Projects.
  • Work with the Business Development and Account Management personnel for the development and administration of client and project capture plans.
  • Coordinate with the DMod team to support the development of EPC and Program Management opportunities within the SER DMod Market.
  • Act as a leader in the advancement and development of innovative department tools and workflows to increase efficiency and promote the adoption and use of technology tools across all DMod project teams.
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, business or related degree from an accredited program and 7 years relevant project management and proven experience developing new clients and opportunities required.
  • Registration as a Licensed Professional Engineer or Project Management Professional is preferred.
  • Strong project management skills and a strategic perspective.
  • Strong experience with document control, scheduling, cost control and project management software is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of Burns & McDonnell financials.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong organizational skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to handle large volumes of work and multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • A basic understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles is required.
  • Employee management and development experience strongly preferred.
